"October2011.org" is organizing "Stop the Machine," a huge rally in Washington
DC, starting October 6th and continuing for as long as it takes.

Another group is planning "SeizeDC!" starting September 10, 2011, but I don't
know as much about them. www.legitgov.org

It's all related. The same bad government that's spending ridiculous amounts of
money to slaughter innocent people all over the world is also the government
that's neglecting and abusing disabled people at home. It all works together.

The mistreatment of disabled people is one component of the whole tangled mess.
The coalition need all the bodies they can get at this rally.
I would like to join the rally with a group of disability rights activists,
I don't care whether they all have the same type of disability.
I have no idea how to organize this, but if we collect a handful of interested
people, maybe we can figure out how to get it started.

If there's any chance of your attending this event, I'd love to hear about it.
I started a thread, "Disability Rights contingent."

The complaint is completely true. But a gathering in Washington is not going to solve or cure it.

When comfortable middle class folk are sufficiently alarmed to get off of their fannies, then something might happen.

You'd do much more good if you just volunteered your personal time to helping disabled people.

Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. I record books for dyslexic and blind folk.

I am also a 12 gallon blood donor. I have great blood. O+ Cytomeglavirus -. My platelets are so choice that when I go down to the blood center to give platelets the folks there line up on both sides of the hallway and wave palm leaves as I go by. My platelet density is twice normal so that when I give a three bagger, it can be used on six patients.

You do more than me. My time is completely tied up between school and work, and my money is completely tied up in various investments.

I would rather give more time/money to the needy after 40 years of compounding than give them a smaller amount now.

Charity ought to be solely a pastime of the retired.

It is very concerning that our personal connection as human beings are being put to the side for profits. The corporation and money are very impersonal. They do not have to meet people in person.

But I am not asking the government to do anything for me or others anymore. If you want something done, you have to do it yourself. Why ask someone who is incompetent to do something?

It's like giving a dollar to a squirrel, being surprised when it chews up my hard earned dollar without remorse, and then seeing it just stare at me blankly as I rant passionately that it had a responsibility to do something meaningful with that dollar.
