You're correct, but the phrase "rice cakes and water" was intended only as a figure of speech. I strongly considered revising it before submitting my post as I fully anticipated that someone would call me out regarding the nutritional completeness of rice cakes; however I decided, perhaps unwisely, against doing so because I felt that it would disrupt my sentence flow. :)

Fair enough.

Taxes, irrespective of their necessity, are tantamount to robbery at gunpoint. If you refuse to pay your taxes the government sends men with guns to lock you up in prison for a long time.

Under Capitalism workers are machines and must run under the cheapest fuel possible.

Ya know, stating the obvious here...but poor people pay taxes too. So what's worse, robbing a rich person of one of their three vehicles, or robbing a poor person of the food on their table or the roof over their head, in order to pay for the food and shelter of a person who is unemployed?

Alright well what do you suggest, I don't like the way our government spends taxes but how else would there be money for public services?

This is such a BS claim. I've heard people say that 'taxed are slavery,' which is worse; it's the equivalent of saying that contributing your fair shair is actually unfair. I'd hate to have a housemate with this attitude - they'd probably claim that it was robbery to be expected to pay their share of the rent and utilities or be kicked out.

Only taxes that go toward funding those services whence all citizens benefit (e.g., fire protection, military, police, etc.) can be reasonably compared to sharing of the cost of rent and utilities by the occupants of a dwelling.

Your analogy is terrible. Housing tenants voluntarily sign contracts obliging them to pay money in exchange for shelter. I signed no such contract obliging me to pay the government. If you don't pay what they say, they come to your house with guns and arrest you. The only distinction between taxes and robbery is that taxes are collected by the government.

While the tea party is sometimes difficult to respect, they, at least, did not so consistently defile their cause. These occupiers are nothing short of delinquents, arsonists, pillagers, and demented exibitionists. This circus is a discouraging sight for utopians since we must finally come to the admission that utopian causes are abused by dysfunctional and irresponsible people. With everything being destroyed under the weight of both dysfunction and inevitable corruption supported by the government, the only hope is to create as much as possible from nothing.

I guess he believes that's implicitly agreed upon in the "social contract." Never mind of course that contracts, "social" or otherwise, aren't signed by force or threat thereof.

Cry me a river. The very act of keeping records that your land property belongs to you requires government expenses and that's just the beginning. If you own a house, government provides to you many implicit services. You would be stealing from society if you didn't pay taxes.

You can opt out of the services, but then good luck ensuring that a mob does not just outpower you and decide they live in your place because you would have no record that you own that stuff. And good luck also getting the government to build pipelines to connect your house to the water system. Etc, etc, etc.
