Back then, people didn't put their images on the internet, and soldiers could get away with a lot more.

After WWII, my uncle brought home ashtrays, necklaces, knife handles, etc made from Japanese people.

On one hand, this behavior is disgusting and troubling.

On the other hand, how can we expect young men to kill people, tolerate the deaths of their mates with little to no grieving, and NOT behave with little to no regard for human life and remains?

This is one of the costs of war.

The actions of individuals can have profound effects on the perceptions of their countries--especially when those individuals carry the flag.

This is the image that will galvinize popular opinion the world over. For better or worse, these young men are defining the reputation of the United States. It may be unfair, it may be unreasonable, but it is what will happen, regardless.

It is dishonorable behavior and reflects poorly on the US armed forces as a whole. Despite the fact that the Taliban soldiers they are peeing on would probably do worse to their bodies had the situation been reversed. Taliban soldiers certainly don't recognize the "rules of war". That is not an excuse for desecrating their bodies as it is obvious that one should not lower themselves to the level of those they are hunting

I hate the Taliban, their ideology, their backwardness, their sexism so much I frankly feel what the Americans, as much as I hate American foreign policy, culture and society, is not really an issue. I would have had them tried by a US military court rapidly for terrorism and hate crimes and then had them shot, though.

That was Al Qaeda. The Taliban was the Islamic fundamentalist government of Afghanistan and does not take part in terrorist activity abroad.
