Homophobes are gay
The link he provided is not from some obscure hate oriented site. I also do not see anything being said that is out of line... Though the actual article title is "Is *some* homophobia self-phobia?" so "Homophobes are gay" is not exactly accurate
It's the sheer volume of these kinds of threads that I'm talking about, not this one in particular.
BTW, the "out of line" thingy doesn't mean anything to me unless someone was actually standing in a line and left it.
I don't know or care to know what it means in this context or one like it, period.
Oh, sorry, I forgot.
You're way out of line, Mr. Assistant Troll!
By the way, you appear to exhibit a much more visceral reaction to this thread than to most others. Your responses to other discussion topics are typically much more intellectual in nature. Do you have anything of value to contribute to the present discussion?

Do you know of any homophobes who aren't gay? I really couldn't think of a counter-example.
I've met a few homophobic straight chicks who clearly aren't gay whatsoever. What cracks me up is how you promulgate the ret*d stereotype that 100% of homophobes are MEN.
The article didn't say that all of the study subjects were men. The article also didn't discuss gender differences in homophobia.
It is entirely possible that many of your acquaintances who self-identify as "homophobic straight chicks" are trying to hide their inner-Lesbian.
"In many cases these are people who are at war with themselves and they are turning this internal conflict outward," adds co-author Richard Ryan, professor of psychology at the University of Rochester who helped direct the research.
Come to think of it, not all of the bigotry against homosexuals can be explained as closeted gays trying to atone for their own homosexual feelings. A certain amount of the bigotry must be of a genuine nature.
If you look at other forms of bigotry, for example, Protestants who are anti-Catholic: probably few such Protestants are repressing hidden Papist tendencies. And, probably few Whites who self-identify as hating Blacks probably have much in the way of a hidden affinity for Black culture.
I'm sure that part of homophobia can be the result of individuals wishing to identify with a larger homophobic social class, and part of it from individuals seeking to assert that they are better than someone else. A few Bible passages render homosexuals a perfect target for this kind of crap.
With someone like Frothy, though, it is pretty obvious. Sending out robocalls that basically say "Mitt Romney is soft on homosexuals! Neener-neener-neener!" One could hardly be more obvious than that.

Is Mitt Romney anti-Gay?
To the extent that it will get him votes. Mitt the Plastic Mormon lives on votes. It is his natural fodder.

Mr. Romney does seem to be a brilliant panderer, doesn't he?

He goes back-and-forth on gay issues, depending on his audience.

I'd say a vast majority are overcompensating for something and a good portion of these people have insecurities about their own sexuality. Gay or straight doesn't really mean anything, we're all somewhere in between on some level. It's not black or white. In our culture(and many others) we've been taught that it's unnatural and immoral, that causes a great deal of stress and confusion to people and one of the ways some people deal with these feelings is repression and homophobia.

Well, it does look as if Mr. Romney may indeed have something to announce, perhaps during his inaugural speech. Or, more likely, he will wait for his re-election before coming out.
I especially like that "Gay Cops for Romney."
Some of Mr. Romney's major donors are gay

I recall Mrs. Romney complaining that her husband wasn't stiff when she unzipped him. Maybe there is a reason for that...
Therefore, all homophobes are gay or have gay tendencies.
...is your logic.
Something evidently went very long in that extremely complex and intricate two-step process.
Not just some homophobes, but the vast majority of homophobes. According to this research (<-- link), the likelihood that a homophobic male person is a closet case is 80%.
So perhaps we can all agree on the following statements: Homophobia is very likely the result of suppressed homosexual desires. Studies suggest that most homophobic people are closeted gays or bisexuals.
From the above-linked study:
I think that's a pretty good definition. People are homophobic if they experience dread in the presence or at the thought of a gay person, which is solely caused by the knowledge that the person is gay.
