The shadow government is as plain as day, the 1% has pretty much enslaved the 99% and gun control is just a tool to further control the poor and working classes.

Umm... did you reread this when you wrote it? Cause it makes no damn sense whatsoever. If the 1% wanted to enslave the 99%, then the party that "helps" the 1%, being the republicans, would be the one about gun control. But its the other way around.

It makes perfect sense, both parties are one in the same. Both are made up of 1% power brokers.

It's ironic how Democrats champion for Womens' rights, gay rights, social programs and rights for everyone but if you are a gun owner, or a would be gun owner, to the donkey, you're the f$@&ing devil to them and spit at you. I have mostly democrat beliefs but on guns, I switch to the elephant unless they make even less sense.

That's in fact what the elephants want you to believe. Plenty of Democrats are gun owners, like the Ragin' Cajun James Carville, or the late leftist wildman, Hunter S. Thompson. It's the fanatical gun advocates who think owning firearms supersedes everyone else' rights who the Democrats hold in disdain.

What do you think Hunter S Thompson would think of Barack Obama? I believe he was an enthusiastic owner of many "assault weapons".

There are plenty of democrats who support gun rights but I imagine many are out of political expediency because of their districts and the true believers out there will get trampled by the national party.

As Thompson had committed suicide - probably due to Bush's reelection - historical "might have beens" are hazardous at best. So I have no idea what Thompson would think of Obama.

Who says Democrats want to ban all weapons? Oh, that's right, the gun lobby and the Republicans.

I don't argue with the assertion that the rank-and-file of the Republican party are lower middle and working class. But the simple fact of the matter is, most of the rich and powerful in finance and business are not only also Republicans, but are the actual leaders of their party. The anti-elitist, NASCAR fan base, populist low church persona the Republican party is a fraud. The Republican party of today, with it's tax cuts for the rich, the cutting of social programs and education, and corporate welfare - just to name a few things - hardly represents the economic interests of most Republican voters. But the rank-and-file still vote Republican, because the leadership appeals to people's prejudices regarding boogeymen like gay marriage, fear of immigrants, Muslims, and - when racism was still acceptable - fear of racial minorities. And in the end, most Republican voters might get their gun rights, but little else.

I never said there weren't any wealthy Democrats. But to make the assertion that the Republican party are common folk, while Democrats are the wealthy elitists, is patently false. And while the Democratic party is hardly perfect or without stain, they've done more with education and social programs to help those without than the Republican party has, which has only treated those in need with disdain. In fact, for all the talk of being the party of common people, the Republican party has spoken of being poor as some sort of moral failing, while treating the rich as demigods.

More like us low-church NASCAR fans see the Republican Party only as the lesser evil.

That was a good little sermon, though.... :thumright:

I have heard many calls for a UK style gun turn-in, much like the one they did in response to the Dunblane Massacre of 1997.

Any attempt to do anything remotely similar would end in utter disaster.

And look what happened!? Violent crime hits 100 year high in 2003. And some Londoners think that the London riots are more damaging due to lack of the right to near arms and overwhelmed police force.

As in VC spike, I forgot what source it was but some scholar thought that the Englishmen and women should be able to own firearms.

The rioters themselves would be far more trigger-happy than anyone nearby. We just need to spend more money on the police.
