I was wondering why the US wouldn't pass it through congress?

Too much pressure from big business and the oil companies. Their sole interest is their share price and profit margin, not whether the planet will still be habitable for their great grand children.

Kyoto gives a free pass to nations competing with the USA who will be (if not already are) worse polluters than any other nation....even though they are in the best position to embrace and implement clean technologies (easier to do it from day one than to retrofit hundreds of factories).

Kyoto had less to do with the environment and more to do with wealth distribution from established nations to developing nations.
