Creationism and evolution aren't mutually exclusive

Christianity/islam and evolution are though. problem is most creationists adhere to either religion thus they get conflated. Evolution doesn't entail that a deity couldn't have intelligently designed the universe. That's beyond the scope of evolution. Deists believe that God created a universe with rational laws and left it alone.

Well yes, but you are taking a very different deinition of creationism. Most creationists in the usual sense are not Deists, they are Theists who believe in the inerrancy of the religious text that holds true to their religion

sadly a lot of rational creationists get lumped in with these theists and conflated.
