Oh, and the god mugging theory only really works if you do believe that there is a god; if you don't believe in god AND hell, you would just walk past the alley and nothing would happen.

I don't see where belief comes into it
(excluding subjective reality of the strongest
sort - in which case one IS God, as it were).
If you disbelieve in the mugger, he still can
put his bullets in you.

Quote:
Oh, and BTW, the one thing that really makes me laugh is the thing about Adam being raised from dust, and Eve being made from one of Adam's ribs. Completely discounting millions of years of evolution, the Creationists would have us believe some hogwash like that. Even though Darwin's theory might be somehow flawed, it stands up more readily than anything the Creationists have put forward. But then again, they tend to use a lot of blind faith for their argument and when anyone tries to point out inadequacies, they yell 'Blasphemy' or 'Heretic' and close down the discussion. That's the sort of blinkered thinking that got us into so many wars in the first place, too.

Well now, the Bible is taken allegorically by some.
Such as that we shouldn't kill our children for backtalking.

Or, that Jesus was the only son of God.

The book of genisis makes it clear that god has many sons........ who looked down upon the daughters of men, and saw that they were fair and begat children with them who were old men of renown.

Yet in today's language it may be considered incest. Unless you are a Christian operating under blind faith. They also say that Christ forgave everyone for their sins and then also say that the only one who can forgive is god. AND even more confusing is the trinity argument (God the father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit).... sounds to me like the writers of that part were on some spirit to me, a spirit named Jim Beam.

Ah, but this is beautiful.
It's the neoplatonism
wrapped up in a mystery
cult.

I find it one of Christianity's
prettier aspects.

In a way it sounds a bit like 'I am, he is, you are, he is, you are me and we are altogether'.

I am the walrus Goo Goo Ga Joob.

It's interesting that the word Trinity is not anywhere in the Bible, it doesn't matter really, just wondering where this term came from, where it originated.

The god mugging allegory was for the benefit of the people who argue that there is a hell because god wants to give humanity a 'choice.' If god and hell are real, though, it's about as much of a choice as choosing between being shot (hell) and doing what the mugger says.

I have never found enough evidence for the existence of either god or hell (of any religion) to convince me, but I don't mind arguing logic with the people who do believe it.

I have a different reason besides the 'problem of evil'

God is perfect(ion), right?

So they claim.

Then there's this: God is all knowing, and thus created everything, and we are insignificant beings under his rule (my words). OK, I suppose to make it simple, that would make God the boss, and us nothing, which makes him Boss over nothing.

Theologists will always be astounded by logic, because blind faith won't allow for it.

Somebody perfect couldn't possibly make a mistake, right?

The human eye supposedly provides a reason why God has to exist, yes?

Yeah, it seems to be like brother and sister hooking up together, doesn't sound that bad for someone who have some sort of dirty and perverted fantasies :P

has anyone who knows the god of the bible does not exist searched ALL of reality to find out?

like another poster said it is hard to falsify

other philosophers have said if it is a question or claim that cannot be falsified then it is not something one can claim as a question about reality and certainly not a question about facts --fact meaning some thing that can be proved scientifically [someday at least]
