Obama thinks your kids should learn Spanish
After Mandarin Chinese, the most commonly spoken language is Spanish, did you know that?
English is third.
Despues Chino Mandarino, lengua segunda mas comun en el mundo es Espanol, nosotros sabemos este?
Ingles es tercero
Hahahahaha,
Yo hablo espanol
I think people should Spanish, it's a commonly spoken tongue and many Latin American countries are booming, look at Venzuela, Argentina, and even Mexico. Mexic's GDP grew at 4.8% according to the World Bank, as written on Wikipedia.
Now, do you want me to translate that?
hahahahaa
And no I am not being pretentious
y yo no soy pretensioso.
And exactly how is it different from the Peace Corps or City Corps? JFK started the Peace Corps in the 1960s, if I'm not mistaken, and I have not seen it as a sinister program that will ultimately expand to eat our children.
English is third.
Yes, but the entire Spanish speaking world has a GDP about the size of Germany's. And it isn't much of an world language either.

i could be wrong on this but i get the impression that most spanish cultures are very misogynistic.
Then you better not order anything special at a chinese restaurant. Because not only will the convey your order in chinese, they chefs will look over at you when told what you want. Just as they would if they were told what you want in English
the implication was that they were looking in a non-neutral, disapproving and/or scurrilous manner. Not that they were simply looking - and, for that matter, none of the Chinese restaurants locally (I live in the boondocks, so this doesn't mean much) have kitchens that can be seen from the customer's section.
I'd love to see you point out a typical adult who doesn't use algebra daily. When you look at the price of gas and say "its $X/gallon so for $20 I can get X gallons, or 3/4 a tank, you are using algebra.
A parking meter costs $.10 an hour. you know you'll be gone at least an hour and a half. You need algebra to tell you how much money to put in the meter
Noooo.... that's simple multiplication and division. If it's algebra, it's the lowest form. I work in a clinical lab, and some of my co-workers have trouble even shifting their brains into that much of a math mode. I'm talking about real algebra - functions, trig, something a little more complex than 2x=6.
No, you need grade-school level addition and subtraction.
You want to see if you are going to owe the government $4,000 or get a refund come April, you need Algebra.
And a lot of people couldn't do that.
We're all aspies here so I can understand why you don't understand that fact, but it doesn't change the fact that speaking a foreign language in public is very rude to say the least.
*snort*
you think that someone speaking their own native language, amongst themselves, is personally disrespectful to you? That's your problem, buddy, not theirs. It's true that in a *private* conversation in which you are included, your companions should either speak in a language that you can understand or have a translator at hand - but why do you think that you should have a right to listen in on everyone else in your vicinity?
so you think that you should be able to go onto someone else's private property - because stores and restaurants are private property - and demand that the staff and owners speak to you? You don't even get to do that in English. Yes, it's inconvenient, but you don't have a right to control what language other people speak. Especially on their own property.
funny how conservatives are always accusing people who disagree with them of 'hating America.'
And exactly how is it different from the Peace Corps or City Corps? JFK started the Peace Corps in the 1960s, if I'm not mistaken, and I have not seen it as a sinister program that will ultimately expand to eat our children.
voluntary is one thing when it becomes mandatory is when it's another or when people can't get certain types of jobs because they chose not to do volunteer work pertaining to that field. So even though the word clearly states "volunteer", volunteer will be put through the spin cycle.
When it becomes mandatory under real definition using careful wording, those who do not follow up could be put through scrutiny, arrested or have a really tough time finding a job. So is that what voluntary means?
It's not in effect, yet.
When it does happen you'll notice the usual phase in mind tricks where people slowly become conditioned into accepting it and eventually defending it.
Don't worry, all appointed politicians will support the same agenda. It's just some will be more charismatic meaning much better at convincing the public that they would be better off this way.
The only possible mandatory service I see on the horizon involves wearing green, marching, and carrying a gun.
Lkl and That is not true. I would be able to function perfectly fine had I not taken algebra. I don't use it daily.,
you don't know what algebra is do you? Just because its simple, or you learned it as part of another math class first., doesn't mean it isn't algebra if you said you weren't going to use algebra you couldn't do a single thing I gave an example of, including how to figure out the amount of money you need for the parking meter. 2x=6 is algebra just as much as 3y+5x - (-4)(3.567) - |-456| +5786 is
You want to see if you are going to owe the government $4,000 or get a refund come April, you need Algebra.
And a lot of people couldn't do that.
Thats just plain pathetic then. The kids around here are able to do that by 8th grade.
Sure- I could do it by 6th. Most kids could do it by 8th. We are, however, talking about retention after the class is no longer being taught. Most americans do not retain higher math skills after school. I've had a year and a half of calculus, but at the moment I couldn't derive a function to save my life, unless I was able to use my old text as a reference. This is because I do not use calculus on a daily basis. Likewise, my Spanish suffers during the interludes when no patients are coming by with whom I can practice that skill.
As far as what is algebra and what is not, I am referring to the types of things that are taught in the classes that are specifically named 'algebra.'
I don't get the push for spanish language considering I hear alot of mean things said against english language here in America by people whose ancestry is more towards Aztec yet they are pushing for another white person's language. Shouldn't there be a movement to get children to speak the native language of Aztec which is Nahuatl?
Spaniards who control Mexico have not made Aztec's lives better even though some Aztecs integrated into Spanish way of life. This would be the ultimate rebellion.
