Me too. A friend of mine came up with the "Three Laws" idea:

1)Don't kill anybody
2)Don't hurt anybody
3)Don't steal from anybody

The United States currently has over 1,000,000 laws on the books. (Land of the free?)
How many laws do we really need?

That's a brilliant idea! *send to US Congress*
How is anyone supposed to remember and follow 1,000,000 laws? Three - much easier!
Oh, and the reason I'm a minarchist is because I think government is too strong and we need less. I *was* an anarchist, but we *do* need law enforcement, prisons, a judicial system etc. (a Night Watchman State)

Mods tend to steer clear of PPR- they don't like getting in the middle of the flamewars that sometimes develop. A PM to MrMark or Quatermass would probably get the fastest response.

I have not yet answered, and don't think I really can. I'm at the point where I hate all political ideologies, and besides that I don't fit into the US left-right spectrum very cleanly.

I don't fit into either left or right either. The problem with Washington is the politicians think "Party First" and it is destroying the United States.

I don’t like to put myself in a box with regards to my political views. My basic principle though is that government should only have authority when it’s necessary to protect people’s livelihood. Enforcing moral codes isn’t governments job IMO, especially religious ones. The US government and governments in general have a lot of blatantly stupid laws IMO, laws that get passed just to cater to specific interest groups yet get forced on everyone. That kind of stuff is what irks me. It infringes freedom in an unnecessary way.

I do believe government has responsibility to regulate large corporations because these companies are so large that the public is highly dependent on them. CEO’s shouldn’t have free reign to do whatever the hell they want like it is in this country. I think small businesses and startup companies should be left alone to make money however they please. If the little guys do something stupid the market takes care of the problem. Only when they get to a certain size do they become part of the public trust.

why do I think this? I just think that it is true and how things are going and after peak oil we will have to take steps back wether we like it or not. I strongly believe co operatives and permaculture is the solution. I think most politics comes down to just what feels right for oneself and is very personal.

How do we get from where we are to Anarcho-Primitivistism? I find that people are addicted to being governed.

Interestingly enough, I have seen a paper that argued against anarchism on the basis of Lord of the Flies and other books. It makes me wonder about the state of academia to use such crude techniques though.

I could see Lord of the Flies being given as an illustrative example, but not as the basis of a scholarly refutation.

I thought that was anarcho-capitalism, or do they not count as anarchists?

Very similar. Liberal Socially (want to leagalize Marajuana and Hashish), and want US resemble the Nordic Countries in terms of Safety Net. However, I also want to have debt at 20% of GDP or less. Also, crimes like murder and rape should have harsh mandatory sentencing, with Castration being mandatory for Rape. Also Gun Rights should not be what kinds of guns, but who gets the guns. You can have a fully automatic gun, but you can not have done a serious crime. Prostitution should also be legalized.

I became libertarian in thinking after working for the U.S. Postal Service. The Postal Service is supposed to be one of the better government agencies, but even that became too much government for me. Being a sorting clerk is a pretty decent job for an Aspie (No public interaction, routines, and numbers if you count zip codes). Unfortunately, mail sorting has become almost exclusively automated. :(

I'm a Moderate in the liberal sense who leans to the conservative side on Economics but the Liberal-Side on most everything else. I am a avid Hillary Clinton supporter as the fact that my political philosophies match that of the Clinton's, Eisenhower as well as the Roosevelt's for the most part.

I believe that a Citizen of the United States should have the right to own as many weapons as they want. As long as they are not a Convicted Felony. Take a Gun Course every 5 Years as well as never bringing a firearm out in public w/o a permit. [Or in a public area like a School, Park, or Library.]

I also believe in Demand-Side Economics [Keynasian] where the only way the economy can start growing is if somebody has money and starts spending somewhere down the way. It was a great thing for the country before a certain C-Average movie actor brought back the same crap that got us into the Great Depression.

I believe that everybody should have equal rights. Should be able to marry whoever they want even if the couple is of the same gender. [Gay-Marriage] There should be stricter anti-discrimination laws as well as higher-quality work programs with disadvantages & people w/ disabilities. Better care for the nations elderly & Veterans and so on. In that sense I am also behind Universal Health Care.

I would also say that everybody is entitled to a fair trial to a crime. Rich or Poor. The Court-System should look at all people as the same. I also would say that strict crimes on criminals will also shape up the U.S. [I don't believe in torture though unless its in the form of a quick and ease execution.]

So I'm Pro-Choice on a lot of key issues. The government in my mind. should also limit it spending & really watch where the money is going in terms of Welfare programs. I also don't believe in balance in terms of the nations defense system. Only have a certain number of people in the military who are the brightest & are working White-Collar based jobs. Only increase the amount of personal for Blue-Collar Military Personnel during crises like war and so on. Even then I believe war should be prevented at all cost. [Anti-war here.]

I would have been considered a Republican all the way up to Reagan. Then afterward's I would have been considered a Democrat and as of right now I am a registered democrat. Almost all my political beliefs are shaped after Third-Way Democrats such as Former President Bill Clinton as well as FDR. I am proud to say I am a Moderate Liberal.
