WMBD/WYZZ TV – PEKIN -- Folks who want to sound off on the governor's veto of local projects are getting their chance. State Representative Mike Smith is sponsoring a public hearing in Pekin on Thursday night. He's urging folks affected by the budget cuts to speak up and take action. Representatives from local organizations like Easter Seals are speaking up. Diane Parrish, a mother whose son has autism, says she was alarmed that the autism program is being slashed in half because, “You cut programs like that and my son can't hold a pencil! It's that basic!”

State Representative Mike Smith says, “The total of the governor's cuts were about $437 million—I understand a third of those were in the area of health care programs.”
