I've heard on Tumblr that 4chan is horrendous.

It really depends on which board you find yourself on. Some boards aren't worth your time. Other boards have just terrible people on them. However, some have a really reliable support community. The general rule of thumb is you have to go on boards that somewhat appeal to you. Read a couple of the threads. And see if you want to post anonymously. Another important detail is that there are vastly different community's on each board. So look around, find some topics, you will eventually find something. The real beautiful thing about 4chan is that: A all posting is completly anonymous, B no one has a way to contact you outside the thread so it's literally impossible to actually bully someone outside of a thread so if you feel threatened or ostracized just leave and come back later.

Personally, I just like being able to disappear and become Unreachable. It allows a lot better cool down than in real life where people just insist on continuing to attack you till you have to drop out of a school, or go to your room.

Tumblr has something weird about 4chan which I do not understand. :? They keep declaring "war" for some reason on 4chan 8O I don't understand why tumblr is so hostile.

Couldn't have put it better myself. And yeah, /b/ is to be avoided generally. Obviously a lot of porn on the adult boards, since that is what they're for. But the other boards are really good sources of relevant information and the site is really easy to use. And if you mess up, well, you messed up and nobody knows it was you so you don't have to worry about making a new account. Just read to get the general feel of the board and post where you want, it's very relaxed.

i remember last year when 4chan "invaded" tumblr, in retaliation to tumblr users posting there. they call it the independence day raid, july 4th. definitely not a pretty thing.

the two sites can't be any more different. the bigger boards often get a rise out of making fun of tumblr users, particularly those who are overweight, or those they perceive to be ugly. their biggest targets are the famed 'feminists' and 'sjw's and "feminist hate threads" are a daily occurrence on /b/ where they vent about how much they hate those who they have never interacted with. although true, it can be said those radicals ruin the image of feminism, both sides act like children sometimes (but 4chan posting all that s**t in retaliation to a few posters was massively uncalled for, i would have hated to be a tumblr mod/admin even if they don't do it >for free). so i see why they have a grudge.

There are some not so pleasant parts of the site for example /B/ is to be avoided at all costs. However, the community can be highly supportive depending on the board. At other times the community can be a little extreme. I would suggest looking into the boards on the left side of the screen like science and mathematics some times the most interesting discussions can be found there. Other times, the logical capabilities of individuals are in question.

i've been to /b/ a lot and i certainly see why it would drive some to madness, but personally i'm not really affected by it, save the occasional maimed animal. :( /int/ is the one i have spent the most time on, mostly racist as all hell, basically indistinguishable from /pol/ which was intended to be the racist containment board. though it can be legitimately funny and i stick around mostly for the language discussions (special interest!!) occasional ACTUAL international discussion and images. otherwise it's mostly >argentina > white.

i've tried /r/ (request) for source on a few, non-adult images and it's proven to be mostly useless and i haven't been able to hep anyone with their requests sine it's mostly porn. the one upside: i got introduced to grimes, whom i'm listening to right now, via one thread where i tried to identify a pic.

/wsg/ is great.

/s4s/ is an absolute hugbox. recommended for those who have no interest in rational, coherent discussion and instead desire to post dank memes for the sake of dank memes. say one rude thing and you are redirected to /b/.

that's an upside too, and it's impossible to register except for mods and janitors (different things) they have their own board. although, i do wonder how one would organize a meetup or exchange info on that site if there isn't a PM system ;like here, they have to risk putting their info for potential trolls to use. i thought about this today - A makes a dummy mail to show off to the B, they mail each other and A gives B (or vice versa) his real email that wasn't shared publicly and is used for future correspondence. huh?

Well, tumblr did make the mistake of explicitly asking 4chan to fight. Obviously there was reluctance at first, but they really seemed to want a raid, they thought they could take it on. I'm not sure what they were expecting. Needless to say I hope they've learnt from their experienced not to try to threaten 4chan with things like DDoS or Doxxing and whatever else they were claiming they could do. SJWs are weird :P

But yeah, the sites couldn't be anymore different, I think that was the prime motive tumblr had. Tumblr seems to be extremely strong on feminism, whereas I don't think any 4chan users are. I'm not. So maybe the SJWs were trying to put their ideas into 4chan? Damn I dunno. I just think tumblr is weird 8O I think I'll stick to 4chan :D

My ex-BFF is now an SJW extremist, and it's quite amusing. I used to be one until I realized how stupid I was being, so I started a new account to a) call out that crap, and b) reblog fandom/fun things.

well i didn't know about the dox/ddos threats part...like (i think) i said, i wasn't really there on that day it was happening, just saw the aftermath, all the chest thumping the day after, etc. i'm sure there's some in the feminist circle that know how to do those kinds of things, but they knew better than to actually do it. or didn't care. and yeah, i do hope it doesn't happen again, for both sides. but what can we do?

i think they were just fed up of the 4chin-ners maiking fun of them all the time so they went on there to try ang get them to stop, or think of what they've done. like that would work, those people are brick walls - they just saw it as more to pick on.

I really like it here how everyone's talking about Tumblr and 4chan like they're political parties or something.

Why on earth would any girl (or guy for that matter) not want to be a feminist? What the hell? Feminism is necessary and it's for everyone. Also racism, sexism, transphobia and homophobic should NEVER be tolerated.

my guess is they believe in most of the ideals, but the highly vocal nuts within the movement turn them off from identifying with The movement.

that's true. but nobody should have to censor others merely for opinions they find "offensive".

I don't know about that. Those things might need to be censored on line to avoid cyber bullying.

Girl here, I hate feminism. And by saying that I don't mean I want women as domestic slaves. I don't mean I don't want equality. I just hate the movement and everything it stands for. There is already an equal rights movement, so why do girls need their own? I don't believe girls face significant sexism in the countries feminism is prevalent in. I believe men face more.

I also hate this idea that I only hate feminism because of the extremists, and that I have the wrong idea. I have read feminism blogs pointed out to be by "real" feminists, not feminazis. They piss me off. Completely. I tried being open minded, but really, I can't stand feminism. Women do not face injustice in North America, Europe or Australia and New Zealand.

I am entitled to my own opinion and if you can't understand it that's not my problem. By all means be feminist, just don't expect everyone to be. I am not misogynist.

I hardly, well simply cannot see why feminism is supposedly "necessary".

It depends on your definition of "racism, sexism, transphobia and homophobic", also parallel structure.

Also, I am almost always opposed to censorship. I live by some pretty conservative values and I often find things offensive. Plus I have experienced, during my time in public school, bullying that gets so bad that the bully tries to kill you. Never the less, I realize that people have a right to offend me and I do not have a right to not be offended. In an ideal society we keep the offences to a minimum by maintaining civil discourse. However, society rarely behaves in an ideal standard.

I'm 19 also, but I don't have a Tumblr nor do I ever go on it. The only social media site that I use is Twitter, and even with that I don't go on it all the time.

Out of curiosity, why do you think you need feminism?

I am also curious about this. As far as I can see our rights are equal and we have equal chances. I've never really understood why we need feminism if no injustice is faced.
