If you are in the US, join Freecycle on YahooGroups. People give old working TV's away quite often on mine, and you can also put up a "needed" post for one.

still have 3 more tv's in reserve, it was my "good" one that died. I'll replace it eventually, I'll look into getting it fixed first

Remember the old days when the tv repairman would come to the house to work on the set? And the worst thing that could be wrong with a tv was the picture tube. I miss those old console tv's, the ones made to look like furniture. My grandparents had a tv that they watched that was an old black and white console from the 50's that had to warm up.

Now you have to send them off to get them fixed don't you?

What Alex said.... there are plenty of good quality shows. DR. House for the win! And all those he mentioned.

Reality shows seem to be all over the TV, just like ricer punk sports cars seem to be everywhere.... they are really a minority. It's just when something is annoying it will grate on you and it will seem like a bigger deal than in really is.

Watch good TV. Ignore bad TV.

My issue with all this is the dumb audience demanding these crass shows. You know a lot of people WANT this crap. If they didn't want them it wouldn't have been produced in the first place.

It's too bad that the previous safe havens (History, Discovery, TLC) have caved in to popular pressure and to the allmighty dollar, and they are now at least 50% reality TV. It seems to me that they have more reality shows than most other channels! There's hardly any history on History anymore. :(

yeah discovery is almost lost. i am not one of those demanding those god awful shows. i watched house till the third season, it got to weird and disturbing not to mention the original cast was replaced, didn't seem like house without the three doctors he would torment on a daily basis. i lost interest ever since.

we don't own a tv. My kids and I do netflixs and hulu to watch our favorites. I'm so sick of all the crap on tv and the grossly inappropriate commercials. The only show I like to watch that is a reality tv show is the bachelorette/bachelor but that show is just a train wreck. I like to see the interesting places they go overseas though and observing the horrible behavior(it makes me feel better about my life).

I hate commercials too, they're so cliché and I don't understand how they convince people into buying anything.

yeah the commercials are disturbing i wish half of that crap was taken off the air, and it seems there is more commercial time the show time. when i was younger it was about 4 or so before the show came back on now it's like 6 or 7, it's annoying.

There is NCIS, but even that's gotten horribly boring. Yes, American TV really stinks! :?

You also only named the lowest budget shows in existence on US TV.

You didn't mention any of the great shows which other countries don't come close to competing with in terms of quality and sophistication such as The Wire, The Sopranos, and even Breaking Bad and Mad Men.

Typical American arrogance.

Sherlock is one of the only international shows I can think of that is close and there are only a few episodes of it.

There are tons of other great shows on US TV. So many that I can't even list them all without spending hours..

yeah there is good stuff out there it's just buried it seems. mythbusters is a show i will always look at with fond memories, and mystery diagnosis. i'm practically living mystery diagnosis at the moment. i have chronic stomach pain and not one doctor can tell me why.

1st 3 seasons of house were good, went downhill from then. reboot was unique at the time first fully 3d rendered show. the proud family one of the last decent classic cartoons till it was canceled. dirty jobs is funny and a bit weird but it gives you an inside look at how a lot of things are developed. the glass blowing one was one of the best.

i don't watch much tv though anymore i'm mostly all for gaming.

arrogance is not being proud of the feats you accomplish. it is the unwillingness to give credit where it is due.

how many times has the usa helped with every damn problem other countries had, more then it should have. the usa was wasted more time cleaning your messes then it has developing itself.

and it's because of people like you that the usa fought for it's freedom, and i would love to see you say that the face of our military. because the b-52 and a few escorts is all we need to wipe your stain off the globe.

you guys only thrive because of the usa so quit bitching and be grateful we don't just kill you off. because i doubt you have anything that remotely compares to our tech in the military. china only has that new jet because the design was stolen from the f-22.

and if you want us to change then make a damn effort instead of whining because because you don't have the freedoms we do. :)

That was pretty much uncalled for.

And do remember, a big stick or a rock in the intake can bring down a F-22.

it is also true, right now we are fighting our own government and does anyone outside the usa give a damn about us... no.

the usa has done much for this world and it doesn't give one ounce in return but whining and complaining.

and i'm pretty sure the b-52 does have a big enough payload, if anything can even match the f22 point it out. they don't call it a stealth fighter for nothing.

but to be honest i'm sick of the crap, the usa is having the worst hell it has ever faced and no one outside gives a damn. if it was my word i'd have everyone else destroyed as punishment i go all over the net all i see in our time of desperate need is bitching usa this usa that, well if we could fix things it would have been fixed don't you think, and who do you think our government is screwing over first us or them, we are in their backyard doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out and they act like they have it sooo bad. our leaders could have us slaughtered with one word, the only thing standing between us and them is the constitution and that's becoming not much little by little. our poor excuse for a president is screwing us over big time and we can't do jack about it we are literally praying for november at this point.

our only hope at this point is november and luck, our freedom is being threatened we are being crushed by a debt higher then all the money in the world could amount to. and people still cross the border illegaly, because even in our crippled state we are still the best country regardless.

but still a little help would be really nice, but no that's to much for anyone besides us.

Sure, but threatening someone because they don't pay you no respect? That's bullying, no likes a bully. Especially if it's the world's most advanced military power.

And don't forget, you're in The Haven...

and everyone that whines about the usa is just spitting in the military's face. and when i say us i mean us as a country as a people. and as far as i'm concerned they should expect hate and anger. and it has almost nothing to do with respect the usa has done more for this world then anyone and in it's time of need no other countries even lift a finger to help instead they whine because they get the aftershock. after we go through hell and back.

unbelievable is all i can say. meanwhile if the usa crumbles every other nation goes with it, so besides lazy, stupidity is also a factor.

and do you think i really care, not like anyone out there can find my house anyway we had to give fedex directions for god sake. but yeah the usa is getting destroyed from the inside for 4 years straight and no one gives two s**ts and japan is hit with a hurricane and every freaking business news station etc.. etc... is willing to help in whatever way they can even the usa with our 10 trillion$ debt that can't afford to get much higher.

my only concern was for two things, the game companies and the bullet trains beyond that i don't give a damn. heck i feel the worst for those super expensive trains. and i was worried the next games to be released were going to be delayed big time.

and god knows we are going to have to help get the railroad rebuilt for them. the fact that anyone is asking anything of us right now is straight BS. we are hurting enough as it is.

oh why are you worried obama doesn't have a spine to attack anyone outside the borders, you are lucky i'm just a normal person. heck i agree this recent war was unnecessary we could have threw a few bombs in that direction and could have spared the lives of thousands of soldiers. but we couldn't just sit back and let them attack us, and now they want to build a temple on our ground where they killed thousands of our people for no bloody reason other then some psycho said so. how can you justify that.

the families tied to that event are still hurting to this day, i am far beyond the ability to care what happens beyond our borders at this point.
