i have an avatar which is the B-9 robot from the series "lost in space".
i never had a role model except for that robot. i watched lost in space from about 4 till 8 years old (when ever it was on), and i identified with the robot.
he never had any empathy with the humans he was lost in space with (except in dumb episodes written by guest writers).
his brain was a computer, and he was programmed as an environmentally analytical aid to the humans.
nevertheless, in many episodes, despite his unconcern for the emotional flavour of the scene, he solves problems that rescue the humans from disaster.
they kind of thank him, but no one truly thinks of him as a living being.
even though in my mind the robot was clearly the "hero" of some episodes, those episodes inevitably finished with the humans all looking "knowingly" at each other and the robot was not even in the shot (he was probably parked in his "bay").
he never got his name mentioned in any credits that rolled at the end of shows.
i felt like i idolized the robots powerful abilities of analysis and also physical strength (in some episodes he went haywire and no human could attempt to challenge him except if they removed his power pack).
i just liked that no one else i knew that watched "lost in space" saw what i saw in the robot, and i felt like i was similar to the robot at those ages between 4 and 8.
i do not change my avatar on a forum ever.
i lose track of who people are when they decide they will change their avatar.
