I am thinking about moving, as I feel that my town and I are not compatible. The town is boring, ugly, cold, Conservative, with an aging population and a culture that is mostly imported.

I would like lots of stimulation, a balance of nature & city, a place where people are interested in everything and nothing. (By that I mean eclectic and changing and open to new things-not part of a "scene" or a "lifestyle.") Oh, and privacy and solitude when I need it.

I realize that you can't always have everything you want and part of the problem is me, but I don't have much to work with here, and would appreciate your suggestions.

I will probably have to move to wherever I get a job, but it would be good to have some fresh ideas.

Your description made me think of California. Are you in the US?

Monaco would be cool. :)

Maybe Tahiti.

Move to Cambodia and become a skull salesman. It's a booming industry, as Cambodia is chock full with skulls and there are plenty of tourists willing to pay a fortune for skull jewelery.

Yes, I do feel dirty for making fun of the Cambodian Genocide.

The Pioneer Valley, Massachusetts. Liberal, has urban areas and a rural feel, has a scene with arts/music/education.

I wouldn't want to live in most of Springfield or Holyoke though, as they're kinda ghetto.

I was about to suggest Idaho, but your description of your own hometown sounds exactly like it is here.

I suggest:

Reno, Nevada
Laguna Beach, California
New York City

But I should warn you that the last two are incredibly expensive to live in, I'm told.

If you mean NYC, there isn't much nature there.

Whereabouts would you go if you were to visit the UK? It's a big place and there's far more to see than just London. London is somewhere distinct from the rest of the UK, really. It's an international city and quite different even from the surrounding area. I personally don't like London and would only visit if I had to.

You're from New York, right? You can go to Manchester and I'd say that's a more appealing prospect than London. You can see the big cities of Manchester and Liverpool, enjoy the countryside of northern England, maybe visit Blackpool (I don't live that far away from it!) and maybe see the Lake District. I live just over an hour away from Manchester Airport and there's a lot to see in the north-west of England.

You can also go to Dublin if you want from JFK though it's probably very touristy. Belfast isn't that far away from Dublin and Northern Ireland is a beautiful place for a break - they get more tourists from places like the US and Canada than they do from the rest of the UK.
