Yup, that nice little thing called an armistice was in effect. It's a shame that WWI lead to the absolute worst peace treaty ever conceived; it was as if someone hit the pause button to go up and take a piss and grab another beer only to sit back down in 1939 and press play. Hell, in order to understand the current business in Iraq and Afghanistan, look to the events of 1919, and you will see.

yup

i was a little disgusted with the number of stories flying around about people not knowing what was going on

here in australia we have ANZAC day in april specifically for aussies and NZ's AND we have rememberance day on the 11/11, and people were getting confused!

just because it wasnt marked by a public holiday

people didnt know why other people were wearing poppies, and others commented on facebook posts "lest we forget" with "isnt ANZAC day in april?"

I always remember it. We used to have a 1 minutes silence in school for it every year so it's stuck in my mind.

I think that we celebrate it too sadly. Hey, people, be happy that you're independent. Ofc respect the war victims, but they did it to make us independent and happy!
