Why is it that instant coffee (caffeine content 65-100mg) doesn't keep me awake, but 500ml diet coke (65mg) does keep me awake, to the point that I can stay up until the early hours of the morning on it. I can drink 4 cups of instant coffee on an empty stomach and nothing will happen, but 500ml of diet coke on an empty stomach keeps me buzzing for hours

Caffeine gives me no energy whatsoever, no matter the amount.
Makes me rather tired, really. :tired:

That sounds annoying, Jmnixon95

I know that people with AS can metabolize chemicals differently....

i dont know why, but i can relate!
Cola keeps me buzzing for hours on end, i dont particularly like the cola rush either.
whereas for coffee, that works for an hour or so, and is really intense, it has a peak.

perhaps it has something to do with the large amounts of sugar or artificial sweetner. it affects your insuline/glucose stuff so perhaps that the two combined makes it buzz. and it could also be the caffeine in combination with the other ingredients.. dunno.

^^ Wow, yaye I believe that is perhaps often correct for myself also jmnixon95. I am very sorry if I am incorrect however. ^^ Ummies, I believe that in some cases however that happy caffeine enjoys making me feel very happy and giddy or perhaps some times providing me with a headache friend.

Do you add milk to your coffee, SteelMaiden? Because I read somewhere that milk changes the way caffeine is absorbed into the bloodstream. Basically milk will make your body absorb the caffeine more slowly, but over a longer period, whereas coffee without milk (or cola, I guess) will be processed quickly, but with a much shorter plateau phase of caffeine in your system.

Maybe you prefer your coffee with just the right amount of milk to avoid the caffein buzz?

Steel Maiden, maybe you need caffeine with sugar or other chemicals included in coke?

About Aspies and their metabolism: I have acne after caffee. And chocolate.

Thanks for the replies

I do add milk, so that's probably why it doesn't affect me so much

Adding sugar could help, but I don't like sweet coffee

Yeah, you're right, it's because of milk. Try without it and post here how it was.

Nothing can give me energy or keep me awake, just like nothing can help me sleep. I can drink all the coffee I want in the evenings and sleep with no problem. The same vice versa just likeI can drink all the warm tea, and still be unable to sleep.

I even took those caffeine pills before and they made me sleepier.

Caffeinated sodas tend to make me sleepy, but caffeinated tea will wake me up.

Caffine makes me tired, unless it's tea.

Caffeine makes me drowsy, but helps me think more clearly. I drink far too much of the stuff for my own good.

I can't consume caffeine if I'm on my Adderall or I'll get all hyper and bouncy. Adderall basically is caffeine in a pill for me anyway.
