If there was University for Aspies and Auties, do you think there would be classes that dealt with socialization? All classes would be about having fun and homework would be making friends and whatnot. What else should there be at this University?

There'd be practical classes in which you get to minutely analyse everything everybody said, and how people reacted, and how people misunderstood what other people said, and you could put things in writing as well, and everything would be tape-recorded, so that you could check people's impressions against The Truth, and arguments would actually get settled (quite often, at least, if not always), and you could formulate theories about language and meaning and truth and interpersonal perception and misperception and self-perception and self-misperception. It wouldn't work with NTs (I know, from bitter experience), but it would work with Aspies. (Not that I'm an Aspie, I'm only a half-blood, as you can see.) At least I think so. Worth a try, anyway.

Almost certainly not Aspie, but certainly something like it

Sounds like a degree in philosophy to me

I actually joined a couple of Web forums on philosophy last year, but soon retired in bewilderment, to lick my many fresh wounds.

What I have in mind would actually have a more practical focus than philosophy.

It wouldn't be scientific, but it would be guided by a sense of reality, in much the same way as science is - the "reality" in this case being what is real in the world of the mind, which of course is not scientifically observable.

But I'm hopeless at explaining my ideas and intuitions (perhaps even in a forum for Aspies), so I won't go on about it too much!

Perhaps Wrong Planet already approximates what I dream of, anyway?

There would be free Internet in the dorm rooms and nobody would have to share a room, unless they wanted to.

There wouldn't be much opportunity to apply those socialising lessons in real situations since while you're at the university everyone's a sperglord, so you'd be socialising in your own unconventional ways anyway.

Wow reading that brought back perhaps the only good memory I have of my high school years.

Used to have a program called LOFT (lots of fun thinking) .. yeah a corny name but it was in essence a class that those with high GPA's could enroll in instead of PE or Ethics classes.

It was a class that took place in a conference room (biig place) and it was about mimicking a research project.

Lets just say I spent most of 10th grade building a maglev car (remote control sized of course) and its road system. It worked too... for the 2 minutes it stayed on track (then flew off the rail and smashed on the wall). That was FUN.

I think the classes shouldn't be about socialisation and such, but on harnessing one's ASD abilities. I'm not sure I'd fancy studying the finer points of how to understand which trousers are fashionable this week, but I would happily learn alternate methods for organising my vast cd collection. :D

This would be fun. I am not sure if everyone would let their hair down and socialize/party more or if everyone would lock themselves up in their and communicate with each other on wrongplanet. The sports teams probably wouldn't be very good.
