For my birthday, my parents took me to the bookstore, where I bought a huge World War I picture book (only $4.99), an astronomy book, and a European history book. Problem is, I'm running out of room. All 5 shelves in my book case are full, I've got a couple other boxes of books in the closet, and a few piles on the floor. I think I might need to put a moratorium on my book-buying until further notice.

Does anyone else have this problem?

I tend to read most of my books online. The internet has a much bigger variety of books than the library or store. I go to the library for new books that arent free online yet.

YEP....I cant throw away my old books because the only advantage to memory problems is I can reread books. They are also my "friends" and I would miss them.I also have reference books which ....well,when the sun spots knock out all the computers,it will be useful to have them as back ups.
I get a lot of books from thrift stores, so I have an ongoing ...."books to read someday" on bookshelves.
Most of the "book towers" through out my apt. are books I have read and need to sort through to decide if I can donate them or keep them to reread someday.Since I hate making these decisions....the towers remain until they become...book hills.I am going to work on that this week, by putting my book hills into my collection of empty box mountains....(I have been saying this for months). After I conquered these geological anomalies,I will work on the clothes hills.

I've already run out of room on my bookshelves. However, I have found a secure nook between the bookcase and wall to stuff my extra books into.

I find it's much easier to read a book that's already been printed and bound, and has a nice cover with pretty colors. Plus, computers are my worst enemies.

true dat. It sux having to read hunched over a computer, and it costs a fortune print them out. Reading an actual book is way better

I agree. While I am familiar around computers, I still love a hard-copy book. When I move out, I'm gonna have to find some more bookcases. Januarys and Julys are the worst months. Why? Because the Lifeline Bookfests are on those months in Brisbane and (in July) the Gold Coast.

I would hate to read books online. Werbert, go to IKEA for a new book shelf.

I have only 2 principles that I stick by no matter what.

1. Don't get involved in a land war in Asia.

2. Don't buy furniture from Swedes.

8O

You would envy me my old Swedish oak desk in my room. But that's not from IKEA, of course. 8)

Yes, I have definitely resorted to a horizontal filing system.

When I move next year, I will be planning to insulate a surface or two with complete wal sof books.

Most useful books on WW1: "Mud blood and Poppycock" and "Covenant with Death"
The first a revisionist look at whether some popular "knowledge" of WW1 actually stands up, the second published in 1934 as a collection of horror photos of WW1 by a newspaper campaigning against any future war in europe. No war with Germany was thinkable for them, then.

My House is literally overflowing with books. Got at least a thousand, but most of them belong to my dad. I keep mine in my room wherever I can stack them.

Like my father used to say "nunca se tira un libro"... "you never trow away a book", so I've been keeping his and mine and my mother's, I think I'll have to start stacking them on the floor if I don't stop buying more.
