Would you ever hurt a fly?

when I worked in the operating room, when a fly would get in there somebody would pick up a can of benzoin spray [antiseptic used for bandaging incisions] and spray at it, its wings would stick together and it would fall in place, then we'd pick it up and dispose of it.

If it's annoying me, it has to go.

flee from thee, filthy fly!

disturbing my peace is a buzzing fly
until it is gone my plans are awry
if it crash-lands in my soup i will cry
its continued buzzing i can't abide
it cannot be part of the food i'll fry
so a clean kill with no splat i will try
my vacuum will suck it up nice and dry
and the next fly had better be more shy.

If every single bug and insect lived its whole life cycle there would be so many of them the world would be destroyed, so we shouldn't feel too guilty for prematurely ending their lives.

Of course, humans in developed countries are living long lives more than ever now, so I guess we're not much better.

I've been told that I look like someone who couldn't hurt a fly.
However, I killed at least hundreds of flies.

When we were kids my brother used to tell me lovely things about houseflies, like how they regurgitate on their food before eating it. One time as we were watching a fly eating he told me it was probably retching violently and we just couldn't hear it.

The proboscis on houseflies grosses me out, both for the above reason and its phallic appearance. My brother also said that whenever I saw flies rubbing their two hind legs together they were defecating. Thank you, big brother, I guess I'm qualified to be an entomologist now.

yep, flies are troublesome. that's why I never hurt spiders (this includes putting spiders outside because if the spider is inside they came in for a reason, and many are adapted to live in interior places anyway so putting them outside just f***s with them).

my dad was almost killed by a spider [cellulitis from a bite] so I am leary of letting them stay indoors at least in my sight. IOW they'd better be shy if they wanna remain warm and dry.

I don't mind spiders as long as they don't drop themselves right in front of me cuz that startles me. My girlfriend has arachnophobia thou so we relocate em outside when we can.

I can't count the number of times a spider would literally drop down in front of me while I was working on the puter or eating or reclining in bed, waking me up when I'd feel something crawling over my forehead.

Flies, bugs sure. Animals or people? No.
