How come it's in an alphabetical order? I use a list for my vacation, too. I always put them into groups. For example, a tooth brush, a hair brush, cotton buds etc are grouped together as they are bathroom items. I also divide all items into hand luggage items and those items that go into the big suitcase. Your list seems very comprehensive. Why do you want to improve the list?

A few days from now, I'm going to the other side of the country for my cousin's wedding. To answer jk1's questions, it's just easier for me to check what I need to bring when everything's in alphabetical order, but there are some spots on my list where I group certain things together, like pharmaceuticals. For each new trip, I also make lists showing where I packed everything. I wanted to improve the list because something was telling me that my old list was incomplete... because it WAS incomplete. Here's my new and improved list:

Aluminum foil
Apron/smock
Backpack (book(s) to read)
Bag clips
Batteries (including spare cell phone battery)
Beach towels
Blankets
Bleach & detergent
Bleach pen
Bug spray
Calculator
Can opener
Car tools (jack, lug wrench, pliers, screwdriver, spare tire, wrenches)*
Clothes (bandana, bathrobe, belt, coat/jacket/poncho/raincoat/sweater/sweatshirt/vest, ear muffs, gloves, hat(s), necktie, pajamas, sandals, suit, shirt tabs, shoe pads, shoes, sunglasses, swim attire, tzitzis, watch)
Compass
Deck of cards
Electrical tape*
Electronics (charger for camera/iPod/laptop (& case)/phone/shaver, flashlight, portable recharger, lens wipes, headphones, flash drive)
Fanny pack (change pouch, ear plugs, paper clips, passport, wallet)
Fire extinguisher*
Flares*
Fly-swatter
Food + water containers/drinking water
Freezer bag
Gasoline can*
Glasses case
Grippers
Inhaler (for emergencies)
Jumper cables*
Keys
Laptop case
Lens cloth/cleaner + case
Lighter/matches*
Maps
Mirror
Motor oil*
Nail clippers*
Napkins
Paper clips
Paper towels/rags
Pencil/pen/eraser/sharpener/pad of paper (or notebook)
Pharmaceuticals & toiletries (bandages + cream, cold sore cream, cotton swabs, cough drops, deodorant, diaper rash cream, eye drops, first aid kit, floss, hairbrush/comb, hand lotion/moisturizer, lip balm, medicine, nasal spray, sanitizer/hand wipes, shampoo/conditioner, soap, sun block/screen, tissues, toilet paper, toothbrush, toothpaste)
Pills (anti-histamine, anti-constipation, anti-diarrhea, anti-indigestion, motrin/ibuprofen, vitamins)
Plastic bags
Plug converters
Plunger
Potholders or gloves
Rope
Rubber bands
Scissors*
Sewing kit
Spare eyeglasses
Sun shield for car windows*
Sunburn cream
Swiss Army knife*
Tape (duct, office, packing, scotch)
Tire chains*
Trash bags
Tweezers*
Twisty ties
Umbrella/parasol
White handkerchief/scarf*

*For vacations by car, not plane trips

What else should I bring with me for vacations? Should I reorganize how I group things?

I would suggest putting all the items related to your car in you car now & keep them in there just incase you need them when your driving locally. Plus you could scratch them off your list sense they'll always be kept there.

How long is your trip?

You seem to have things under control.
