When I do work on the computer, I get bad urges to go on the internet and research about my obsessions or go on forums/FictionPress. Its extremely annoying and I could finish work much more quickly if I didn't waste half an hour or more doing other things on the internet.

Is there any advice anyone can give me for this, because I am very desperate for a good solution.

Learn to control impulses. There's no other way. You'll have to suffer until it becomes natural to say: "No, not right now, later, there's work elsewhere to be done."

Ha, yeah I guess I am the same way, its hard for me to do any sort of work on a computer with internet access. But trust me, this is MUCH better than the other urges I have.

I have the same internet urges. If I could, I would do nothing but stay online. The only advice I can give is too just use it to motivate yourself to finish your work because when you're finished you can do whatever you want online.

The temptation is always there. Hard to resist playing on games, looking up things on wikipedia, and looking for some p0rnography.

I have the same problem. I control it by saying to myself that I will have x amount of time on the internet, then work for y amount of time or until I've got z amount of work done, then I can have x amount of internet time.

It's always easier on college computers, where you can't do half of that stuff.

Thanks all. Yes, I have to stop myself. Perhaps I should get out my ATNotes program and put a giant message on my desktop saying NO INTERNET. Either that, or I use my laptop more, which has no internet.

You mean addicted to internet?

I must confess I am. Whenever I travel (which I do A LOT) I always check on internet cafes so that I can at least check my emails daily. I find it even hard to not visit the forums I like on daily basis.

On the other hand I made some of my best friends over the internet and computer skills are very important to one's CV. So guess it is one of those addictions that is not that unhealthy as long as it does not go too extreme?

I am drawn to my cat site, Roger Bannister websites and medical related sites, as well as to WP.

There are software programs that limit your use of whatever program you're addicted to (your internet browser). They're designed for kids, but who cares? You can also get programs that block certain websites or privileges that are used in schools and libraries. Then when you are done, you can unblock whatever you blocked.

Bribe yourself. You like challenges, right?

Call me a hypocrite, I'm wasting time right now....

Heh!

With all this school work, I barely have time to mess about on the internet! I haven't been on the home computer since Sunday! (now it is Friday evening)
