I would love to learn Hebrew and Arabic to increase my chances of finding long-term employment in the Middle East. So far all language teaching softwares I saw were paid, while I really only want a free one. I somewhat fail to see how a computer can make you fluent in a language without a real person to talk to ; if I do try this self-teaching method I want to try it for free so that I can first see if it really works before investing any cash.
I did hear www.hebrewonline.com is very good (it is also recognised by the Israeli government) but the costs are a bit a turn-off... If anyone knows a good free program teaching a nordic language (preferably Norwegian) , Arabic or Hebrew, please do let me know.
I do believe however the best way to learn a language is to just go out and speak it to people in everyday situations. My English for example only reached the level I have now once I relocated to Ireland and started using it on daily basis in everyday situations. Prior to that I mainly spoke the sort of English you are taught in a course, but then once you arrive in a country where people speak it as native tongue you do experience no course can ever be as good as just going out there and talk to the locals.
