I never want to have a period again. Seriously.

I didn't want kids and even used to volunteer to escort women past the protestors into the abortion clinic.

I got pregnant accidentally by having "survival sex" while homeless. I am so out of touch with my own body that I was four months pregnant, almost five, before I even realized what was happening.

Getting a second trimester abortion is more complicated and expensive. And not very easy for a homeless person to obtain. I ended up deciding to just make the best of it. If I'd realized much earlier that I was pregnant I probably would have aborted.

Your perceptions of things seems a bit skewed and melodramatic to me - of course that wouldn't happen. I took the pill for years, and nothing of the sort took place. I remained fit, the same weight as I was before, and my breast size didn't change. My periods, however, were shorter, lighter and less painful. Be a little more open-minded and try it - after all, endurance training is obviously not a feasible idea, and you'd regret it in years to come because as well as being a pain in the backside to keep up with, it would take a toll on your joints.

But you should still go to the doctor anyway - just to make sure everything's okay.

Sorry, I don't think it's your place to reproach me for not being open minded. It's my body and my endocrine system being affected there.

I would never starve myself. I was thinking very harsh endurance training not starving myself.

The pill craps over your ability to put on muscle and get stronger. And tends to cause larger breasts as well. I don't want to be blubbery and weak with size H breasts.

Hm I thought that study only found muscle to grow less in size, not for there to be less strength gains. But I won't question your priorities, I know the feeling myself.
But I also know that having my period messes up my workout routines so much I won't gain if I'm not on it anyway.

You might be right there actually, I read that a long time ago and can't remember exact details. I still don't want it for that reason though. I'm desperate to put on SOME muscle mass. I hate looking like a waif. Also I am still growing and I know high doses of estrogen attenuate growth. I can't believe they let teen girls take it for that reason.

And I must add something else : we know that pain during period is related about how you live it in your mind, how you live your body, how you live the fact to be a woman, etc. So I can't say if there's a problem for you about that. But if maybe there is one, a psychotherapy could also help.

I couldn't tell you if it's psychosomatic, but I do have issues about being a woman...it makes me angry that my body is trying to have a baby against my will.

I like the aesthetic of my body but I don't like the 'baby making' part. I feel like all the males in my life got super powers at puberty and all I got was the ability to have babies, which I don't feel is a strength or a power of sorts, as I don't really like children and I don't want any of my own.

So yeah. May be a mental component.

Amen, amen, amen! I tried knocking out my periods with depo but all it made me do was bleed constantly. After that, I gave up on screwing with my hormones and just kind of accepted the week of bloodless cramps, the week of bloody cramps that have me up all night because I'm soaking through a super absorbant tampon (my ass) and a pad every 2-3 hours, and the couple of days after ward wher I'm still in a valium/estrogen/percocet induced haze. I want a freaking hysterectomy.

I would like one too. But it's elective surgery and it would cost prohibitive amounts.

It would also permanently solve the need for contraception. Not that I'd take it as a green light to be irresponsible - I don't want AIDS! But it would be lovely to never have to worry that the extra safe condom you used last night somehow had a microtear.

I apologise - I didn't mean to seem as if I was reproaching you. It just seems a shame for you to miss out on what could be a convenient, affordable and effective solution because you're worried about things that, in the end, most likely wouldn't even be a problem. I understand the concern over affecting your body with medication - I really hated the idea too, until made myself try it, and got used to it. And it wasn't a fraction as terrible as I expected it would be!

I hope you find a solution that you are comfortable with and that works well too.

There are ways of easing dysmenorrhea without stopping your periods. Try taking magnesium, among other things. Won't have the side-effects of birth control pills and doesn't require such intense exercise.

Fair enough. I just misread the tone of your post.

I definitely don't want to take the regular Pill as I'm tiny with no muscle mass as it is. I also don't like the idea of extra estrogen as it does a lot more than just maintain female characteristics - I don't want to take something that subtly affects behaviour, thinking, and a whole lot else. Maybe it isn't that bad but I like my head the way it is.

I will look into other stuff though.

Might have been messed up magnesium levels. I didn't take it consistently this month.

Sentenced by a period topic

Diet changes can make periods much easier. Talk to a health professional. 8)

And to all you ladies wishing for menopause. This is hard work to maintain a healthy weight after the monthly cycles are ended. Weight gain is inevitable, especially belly/waist fat. For me i have to exercise daily and ingest no more than 1650 healthy calories to maintain a slim silhouette. This is good but sometimes I wish secretly I could splurge on a doughnut or greasy french fries, but willpower and common Aspie sense prevails. No alcohol, illegal drugs or smoking either. I am boringly healthy. This is what keeps me going.

One thing that can make many periods more bearable is a Diva Cup or similar menstrual cup thingy. It will not fix everything and it will not make your period wonderful. But for me it made a difference. I have cramps for a week, bleed for at least a week, and then have another day or two of cramps. And various other issues. I started using the cup, and it meant only having to deal with blood TWICE a day. Instead of a million times with even the biggest tampons. No pads to change, no tampons to throw out. And somehow, it makes my cramps less awful. I'm not sure why that is and I don't know if it would do that for everyone.

Soon after, I started on the pill. And I love it. I was just able to skip a period because I felt like it. I know you're not supposed to do that much, if at all, but it's kind of empowering to decide that this month, I won't have a period. It's made my cramps MUCH less awful, and my period much shorter. I take Yaz and it only has 4 placebo pills, instead of 7. So I'm bleeding for much less time.

Me neither and I'm getting a hystorectomy soon so I will not have too. I'm getting pretty sick and tired of people (mostly men) here trying to tell me not too. I have alergric reactions to every tampon/pad on the market and can't tolerate the sensation of them either. Women still have periods with birth control and I hear autistic women have horrible reactions to it. I get reactions from cold pills and decongestants. Having my uterus burned wouldn't be 100 percent effective and even my doctor agreeed with me a hystorectomy might be the best option. If I had known periods would stop via mal nurtion, I would have starved myself. I couldn't remember to take the pill everyday and besides, you still get them with the pill. I'd much rather have my uterus ripped out and be done with it.

I ended up in the emergency room after just 3 days of the birth control pill. It was terrible.

I'm 32 but I too want a hysterectomy. I don't want to get married nor have children. I have always been scared of having sex. I also have a medical condition that will make having sex and being pregnant extremely painful. I hate periods. :x

There are 2 types of pill. The combined pill and the eostrogen only pill. The first type is the one you take for 3 weeks and then have a week off where you get your period. The second you take every day and you have no periods whatsoever. I have taken the second one for years without any side effects. The second type is the same as the implant, which you can have if you're not good at taking pill every day. I didn't have that because anything even slightly invasive freaks me out completely.

I'm glad the pill chapter is over after I came out. However, period is annoying as hell and I wish I wouldn't have it... 1 week before I feel like I'm getting fat, I have mood swings and just cannot wait for it to be over.
