Someone has said it is difficult to understand how I can express my inner feelings so well when I write if I have Aspergers.
Sounds like a typical NT "expert" to me, that is someone who doesn't really have a clue. Just like we "all" hate fiction and are math geniuses etc.

Is it unusual for an Aspie to be able to express themselves clearly in the written word but not in face to face interaction?
No, from what I see that's extremely typical for us. Aspies tend to be strong verbally.
When aspie Martin Møller-Nordbye published his book "Martins verden" (Martin's world), the cover said that it was a rare book because few people with his diagnosis was capable of explaining their situation.
OMG so wrong. *facepalm*

Does anyone else find it easier to express themselves in the written word?
OMG yes!! It is so much easier to express myself in writing than in spoken words. I can edit it until I get it right, take the time I need and polish it.
Everything is easier in writing, and
in particular expressing such emotions as love, appreciation and sympathy. Those are very awkward things to say, and
so much easier to write!
I was always told in school that my writing was good.
