Do NT's consider smarminess a positive trait for a leader?

Does anyone else feel that this is the case?

I'm completely serious. This is something I don't understand about human nature.

No it is not considered positive, it just usually isn't seen for what it is amongst the gen. pop. especially in cases where they share the same smarminess about a topic.

Well, I can't speak for all NTs. I'd guess that it depends on the NT.

Although if you take a look at our current elected political leaders in general, I'd say you're definitely on to a trend.

I think the smarminess validates their world view and then they don't have to think about the way things are.

This looks like an interesting thread. I wish I knew what smarminess was so I could participate :(

Think of Tony Blair. Inane grin, patronising way of speaking, lying, shameless ...

Yes, it does appear to work. I've never understood it myself.

mm something like unctuousness. unction being an annointing oil, smarminess is the mutual social annointing with oil.

Think about this:

Most Auties have an IQ well above average.

Half of NT's have a below average IQ. (That is what average means)

So if some of them are too dim to "see through" some phoney, well, that's life.

Thank you. I was lucky to find the Spanish translation now: zalamero.

Everyone will tell you honestly that they hate to be "ass-kissed". However, on a less conscious level, everyone likes those who kiss their ass better than those who don't. It's a human weakness.

Being smarmy is not considered by NTs to be a positive trait in itself. What NTs do pay strong attention to is how good you are at ensuring the positive regard and enthusiastic cooperation of those you need to advance your interests. This is one of the most sought-after skills in an employee in the corporate world. Whether you manage to become "friends" with someone you need through smarminess or other, no one cares. What matters is the bottom line.

Oh, a used car salesman!

I personally think we need more swarthiness in world leadership...

To NT's, it seems, smarminess = good. Honesty, not so much so.... :(

Well if you don't seem like you think you are the greatest man in the world who is going to vote for you. Example Gordon Brown was going to Labour leader then Lord Mandleson saw Blair was way smarmy and immediately sent Brown to treasury and Blair to be leader, won them the election first time round even though they were predicted to get a huge win in 93/4 (I don't know i was only 2) when Brown was leader but still had to wait until 97.

I think having a projectile vomit smiley would be useful for this topic.

Can anyone think of a head of state that wasn't smarmy? Abraham Lincoln perhaps? Only one I can think of off the top of my head.
