I have a friend who I like a lot, and I talk to online often, but I have hard time spending time with her IRL. She has a physical disability that effects her speech, and with my CAPD it's pretty much impossible to understand anything she says. And so conversations are severely limited. I want to explain this to her and find an alternate method of communication. How can I bring this up politely? Any suggestions for how we could communicate more easily? I would be comfortable sitting in a room together and just IMing, but that isn't practical if we want to go out and do something.

She'll understand, just add a bit of tact where nessercary and tell her. It's as simple as that.
