At school my teachers have to choose for me!
If I come into a room, and I have to sit down on a chair, I can't choose which chair I want to sit on.
My teachers tend to say: "Oh, Lina, there are many chairs here! What about sitting here?" Lol. :) My classmates surely think I'm a crackpot.
If my teachers don't help me with this, I get worried and stand gapingly in front of all chairs.
It can also be all about choosing between scissors, pencils, activities and all sort of things.
My teachers say: "You really need to choose by yourself this time!" but then I say: "I can't choose, please do it for me."

What about you?

Yeah, I can relate. I had that problem at schools with the chairs too. Now I have to choose between, clothes, beverages, snacks, or doing a certain task. I do a lot of choosing for myself these days because no one is going to do it for me but it's still hard to do. If I don't have enough money I have to choose which item I'd rather buy. That can be a tough one.
Your teacher is right because people aren't always going to be there to do the choosing for you. I remember when I had to order meals on my own. It was hard but I got through it and now I can do it with ease.

I also have a hard time, making decisions. I take a long time, deciding what to wear, and sometimes it takes me a few minutes to decide what record/CD/group to listen to. I'm getting better at it.

I guess that's why we tend to sit in the same spot. I have that habit but then I sit in a random spot if it's been taken.

I have trouble choosing though my diagnosis is add...(daughter has been diagnosed with aspergers). It's really a nightmare in a video store where i have to choose between similar things and I might like many of them equally. I have to go in with a movie in mind. In fact, I've found netflix awfully helpful because they make choices for me based on movies I like...same with amazon...they make recomendations based on books I've already ordered. I find that awesome because I can look at the choice and think...hey, I'd probably like that. But when I see too many similar things in the same place it is terrible to decide. I like going to restaurants, but once I've tried something there and I like it, I will get it over and over so I don't have to make a choice again. I'm vegetarian, so I'm already limited...and then if I like something, that will be what I get from now on because that's easiest. :) Same with clothing...if I find a shirt I like I will get it in the colors I like so I don't have to shop again because I don't like shopping.

Yes! I have a terrible time making choices. For example, right now on WP I'm having a very hard time deciding which Johnny Depp character I want to have as my avatar, which is why it changes every couple of hours.

I have this problem all the time when I go shopping. Unless I know exactly what I want or what I need, I take forever to pick something. It's like: "Oh this looks cute, and so does that... but do I really need these things? Maybe just one of them... but which one?" That's why I like to shop by myself, I hate having people tagging along, telling me to hurry up, & asking if I've found what I was looking for.

I hate it whenever I have to make decisions, especially complicated ones. It always takes me forever to make a decision and people get impatient for me to make one. I can never seem to make a quick decision; it's always going to take me a while.

If I am unfamiliar with a situation, I may take a really really long time to make a decision, but once I have experience with a similar situation, my decisions are generally consistent.

In school, it was usually very easy for me to pick a seat.

I always tried to sit in the same position: one seat left of the right corner at the back of the room.

When the classrooms were laid out in ways such that there was no such seat(such as in classrooms with desks arranged in a circle or classrooms with tables) I tried to sit one chair to the side of a corner of the room, and during each class period I wanted to be able to sit in the same seat.

And if someone prevented me from sitting in my seat I would get sooooo anxious. 8O

When I want something to drink, most of the time I want water. But for many years I only drank one particular type of soda, and for many years before that I only drank milk.

My clothes all look basically the same. I have many shirts, but they're all the same brand, same fabric, same style and same shape. And they're all either navy blue or black. And I have many pairs of pants, but they're all the same brand, fabric, style, shape and color. And many pairs of socks, which are again all the same brand, style, fabric, shape and color. And shoes.

When I get food from restaurants, I always order the same thing unless I am sick or there is some very very unusual circumstance. But because I now understand that other people think that's strange, I try to not go to the same restaurant on two consecutive days. And I don't like when I walk in and they recite my order to me asking me if it's what I want.

When I go grocery shopping, I used to always get only one main type of food, and I still have a tendency to do that. I will buy many of the same meal and eat that same dish repeatedly for weeks or months. I have changed a little since I was young, though, and now I don't get *just one* type of food. I get many packages of each of a few different types of food and eat one type until it's done, and then the next, and then the next. There is much more variation in the groceries I buy now than there used to be.

I can relate to a lot of what you just said. I always prefer to sit at the front of every classroom, particularly at the edge of each row because I feel a little.....claustrophobic, I guess, sitting in between two people.

I usually order the same thing from certain restaurants as well. If I go to the same restaurant in two or more consecutive days, I hope that there is a different cashier than the day before because I don't want them to remember me for what I order.

It can be a habit of weighing the pros and cons excessively.

"If I choose the seat by the window, will it affect my chances of getting into a high profile university?" :?

Okay, maybe that is exaggerating too much, but it can feel that ridiculous when I take a long time to make a choice.

Yup. I can make decisions but I need time, and no distractions. And nothing screws you up as much as having someone waiting for you. Not just waiting, but WAITING for you to choose. Because such people seldom wait in silence, and frequently assume that you want help (or in fact they can't stand waiting and act like they think you want help). I remember a couple of months ago trying to order lunch in a restaurant with my husband and three kids. The kids were fighting over bench space next to me I hadn't even had much of a chance to look at a menu. The waitress came up and took the orders but I had no clue. I wanted her to take theirs and give me another minute but she just stood there. Well, as long as the little jerk stood staring at me I couldn't think. I wanted to smack her so hard. If I'm willing to wait for my food in order to reduce pressure enough to allow me to think, that's my problem.

Of course, it's just the sort of thing that makes everyone think I'm rude, for not appreciating the poor girl's awkward situation or he eagerness to take my order with everyone else's. She just didn't want to have to come back too soon. I do get sick of people assuming I'm just being difficult. My mind went blank, is that my fault?

Class seating was never an issue. In yiounger days seats were assigned, usually alphabetically, When I finally had a choice, there were clearcut guidelines designed for self preservation:

Near the door if possible. Near the front but NOT in the front row. If possible, not next to anybody [unless I had a friend there, in which case the rule was "next to friend". If possible, not in a chair of a type knoewn to be uncomfortable.

But other areas - what to order in a restaurant, what to get as a birthday present for X, etc.- take time, sometimes so much time it never happens.

I love Sam too. Plus, his facial expression matches how I'm feeling. So it's decided - Sam it is! :)

Exactly what I was thinking. Part of the reason why I do things the same way so much of the time is to avoid the stress of having to decide between options that are more-or-less equal.
