I've picked my nose and eaten boogers since I was a kid, and still do. I usually don't do it in public (but sometimes I do inadvertantly), but I have two really close friends who are auties and do the same thing. When we're around eachother, hanging out, we pick'n'chew and we don't feel embarassed because we all know we do it - it's no secret.

And quite frankly, we don't gove a damn about what people think about us anymore. I personally think this taboo is a very dumb one, and they think so also. We've spent eight years trying to fit in, we've failed, and we don't care anymore. We just want to be ourselves, and we'd rather have two best friends (three people total) who we fel the most comfortable around and are carefree, than 20 friends where we'd have to worry about which guy will backstab, which unwritten rule or taboo that we don't know about we'll break, or which friend wants to blackmail us.

My advice? If it works for you, do what works for you. You're your own person. As long as you don't rob stores, smash windows, murder, rape, kill, scam, decieve, or be an abusive person, why should you worry about that?

This is my favorite thread on WP. I have often wondered whether I have evar picked my nose and eaten my boogers. Certainly, I pick my nose a lot, but I don't eat my boogers as an adult. The lingering question is whether I did it as a child. For awhile, I thought that I must have, because I know what boogers taste like. Then, I thought that perhaps I only know what boogers taste like, because I have coughed up things that taste like boogers, things like snot that is fairly dry. This happens during bad colds. But then I remembered that I also know about the texture of boogers. So I thought that maybe I had eaten boogers after all, as a child. Or it is possible that I confused the touchy-feely of boogers on my fingers when I pick my nose for the made-up sensation of booger texture in my mouth. So the great mystery remains and may never be solved...I guess that I could eat a booger now to verify its genuine taste and texture against the sensations in my memory.

Yep, I pick my nose. I'll do it in public sometimes without thinking, typically when a booger is especially annoying, but I've found ways to be more discreet about it. I didn't really realize where was anything wrong with it until other kids pointed it out to me in middle school.

And I'm not ashamed to admit that, yes, I do eat my boogers sometimes too...

I use to pick my nose all the time as a kid and it was hard to not do it. I don't do it as much. I also eat my boogers. I started to in 6th grade. I wonder if any NT adults do it but they do it in private.

I declare a.... BOOGER FIGHT!! !

Better eat 'em or they'll get stuck to ya....

Seriously though... It's either tweezers or a simple finger nail to get those superglued big-daddies outta there. The choice is a no brainer and if people can't get over it then oh well...

I've never done. My Aspie brother does it far too much.

You can do it,
You can do it,
You can pick your nose and chew it!

Does anyone else remember that rhyme? I don't think I've heard it since grade school.

Seriously, nose-picking is one of the things that made me realize I used to have a really awful concept of what other people perceived. Not until I was about 12 did I understand that shielding my nose with one hand while the other picked away, didn't fool anyone. True to form, it wasn't until many, many years later that It even occurred to me to consider what this activity may have caused my peers to think of me. :?

Nose picking is not a sign of AS. It's a stim, yes, but it's one of the stims that NTs often show as well.

^^^^ I loved this thread too because this is something normal people DEFINITELY don;t talk about IRL or admit to doing (unless maybe you admit it first). I pick my nose a lot but I don't eat it. I did eat it when I was a kid. The feel of anything around the sides of my nostrils drives me crazy and it's really hard not to pick. I wash my hands after I do it but I get colds and things a lot and so I'm trying to stop now (thinking maybe I don;'t wash my hands quickly enough or thoroughly and the germs spread and it contributes to be getting sick a lot). It's really hard to stop...sometimes all I can think about is the feeling of something on the side of my nose. Buggars are trapped dirt and bacteria so it must not be healthy to spread it around or touch it (or eat it) right?

I admit that I do pick my nose. That's also why I carry tissues with me all the time. I just can't stand it when it feels like there's something in my nose. I don't eat the boogers, though. At least not the drier ones. However, when they're still moist, I do swallow them. Although I've heard that it can be beneficial to your immune system. And really, I think everyone swallows mucus from the nasal cavity. I'm sure plenty of it drips back into the throat.

How do you know if it's just another ''Aspie thing'' (just like everything else in the world is)? I bet NTs pick their nose too, just not in sight of other people. It's just another one of those common habits that most find disgusting when seeing others do it, like spitting, clicking joints, biting nails, and making oneself bleed. How do you know only ASPIES do it?
