At times, when I am stressed, I make many stupid errors that I wouldn't make otherwise. I know people tend to make more errors under stress in general but it seems to happen to me much more than NTs. It tends to occur in crowded or noisy environments.

It depends on the cause of the stress. If it is stress that triggers an adrenaline dump, I tend to perform better, or if there is something specific for me to do. If I have nothing specific to do, I'm probably not gonna do very well...

If it's academic stress I tend to perform much worse, especially if I know that something has to be completed by a certain date. Most of the time I spend so much energy stressing that I don't complete the work and sometimes, I get so stressed/anxious that my brain is kind of paralyzed to starting the task.

If it's another type of stress my performance goes down but I'm usually able to handle it.

Yes, stress has a negative effect on my performance. I was doing a fun online IQ test and because I was stressed about other things I got the answer wrong. It was one of those guess the next patterns that I usually get right.

I'm much better at handling stress if it's something I can prepare for vs something hurried and on the fly.

Let me explain with a simple example;

Someone: Hey, how are you? 8)
Me: well... I... ...................
(inside my brain: Come on, you can do it. You have the ability to solve complex  problems. This is just a simple thing that anyone can reply)
But, most of the time, conversation ends after this (very first) question that been asked to me.

I also can't do any calculation if anyone is staring at me or looking to my work environment. (inside my brain: 2+2=?????? 8O )

So, most of the time social situations stresses me and preventing me from the things that I can do well.

Absolutely! For example, if I am late leaving the house for an appointment I will panic and my mind races trying to figure out what I need to do next.. but since I am stressed I can't actually think of the next step. So while I feel like I am running around trying to get done, I am actually not doing anything and wandering around aimlessly. This has been pointed out to me by several people who have observed me. But the more I try to hurry the less I actually get done.

I do the same thing at work. If I have a large urgent issue hanging over my head that I am waiting on an email response or something.. I will get into a panicked mental state and kind of sit and go to pick something up.. and stop.. or go check the printer... when I haven't printed anything. Because I just don't know what to do next. It's ironic, really. I try to hurry and I end up being even slower.

It helps me to make lists of everything that I need to do. When I get panicked, I get overloaded and terrified I'm going to forget something and it's hard to prioritize all the ideas formlessly floating around in my mind. If I write them down on paper or on the computer (thereby getting them out of my head) and check them off as I go, I can make sure I am not forgetting anything and it is easier to prioritize. This is one of the reasons I have an expensive phone with a keyboard and word/excel. I can write down anything I need to remember and set reminders and make lists and etc.

I'd be lost without my lists.

Indeed. And I'm really lost when I lose my lists. 8O

I find that I have that problem, as well.

I work much better under stress/pressure. I think it may a result of hyper focus on the task and thus I am not prone to be distracted by unrelated items.

There have been times when I wished I was constantly under stress/pressure as I feel like I might shine more. Unfortunately, I struggle to perform even partially as well unless I manage to find myself hyper focusing on a task.

Me! But I think that's just a normal effect of stress...

There is no need to stress out over calculating an accurate answer to this ritual. Just follow the "form". If you want to create a negative impression, then give a slow or negative response that lacks "energy". If you want to create a positive impression of yourself in the person asking, just give a quick, positive and cheerful response and reciprocate the question. Your actual wellbeing is not the information that is being sought by this question in the overwhelming majority of instances where it is posed.
