Judge Rotenburg Center on Nightline Tonight

This center uses electroshock with autistics and those with mental illnesses. They are being accused of torture by disability rights groups.

that is a tough deal. it seems that once you get below a certain level of cognitive functioning, that the options for therapeutic treament get very limited. i am opposed to using torture to modify behavior. there has got to be a different way. the student who punched himself in the head, for example he could have been outfitted with soft hand covers and a helmet that would have let him wail away without actually harming himself. there are always more intelligent and humane alternatives to corporal punishment.
