This may seem like a strange thing to ask (as it rerely happens) but did any of you have a HAPPY childhood?

I had one for a start. I won't start going into detail about it (as I'll tell you more some other time maybe after I've got some replys on this post) But I've always wondered after reading all of the sad and sorry tales of being missunderstood, bullying, and the like, if any of you have lived happy childhoods inspite (or have been protected by others) of all that.

So come all you Aspie Playboys and Aspie Princess, nows the time to tell YOUR stories!! !! !

Goodbye till next time

Yes, I have!! Thanks to a programme called ABA, I've been able to be happy socialising with other people, entertaining myself by reading and getting jokes and humour and basically almost living like a normal person. I still have some autistic/aspie quirks, those who are familiar with me on here will know that I am obsessed with stuff like zebras and Looney Tunes. Yes, I spent much time learning as a child, but I was very happy learning and I hardly ever didn't enjoy "work".

My sister and I went for a walk with her fiance the other day and the dog. We were in the middle of no where with just sheep and fields and she said to me, "we had a good childhood didn't we. We got to run around in the woods and climb trees and she told me about the secret dens she used to have. I said I didn't know anything about the dens. Well they were secret, she replied. She said she felt sorry for kids growing up in the middle of the town who didn't have somewhere to run around like we did. We didn't have much, we never had a SNes or gameboy like other kids, but we had alot of stuffed animals and made up our own wee world. All of my memories with my sister were good. It was when we had to leave that world and go to school that things got difficult.

My childhood mostly sucked. I did get an accidental "buddy" when I was fifteen, though.

She was really social and introduced me to tons of people and events. So even though I'm not close to anyone but her, I did have a pretty active social life from there 'til a few years ago. I only really appreciate that for what is was, now. She took quite a lot on making me her friend.

Other than that, I was suicidal from age twelve to eighteen, though.. I totally believe that with proper support an aspie kid can be gloriously happy. I know I tried to be, other asshats just kept getting in my way.

My childhood was great except for my experiences at school.

My childhood was wonderful. I loved going to school to learn, though the bullies did certainly make that more difficult. I never let them get me down, though, despite some pretty hard bullying.

My childhood was great except being bullied at school and having a hard time fitting in and learning

I had a good childhood, because I grew up at a time, when kids could still be kids, whether they were autistic, or not.

I remember it being very pleasant until perhaps grade 5, when I began to feel / understand that I was different. Then the loner days began and the rest of my "childhood" was pretty unhappy. I wasn't beaten, didn't have alcoholic parents, didn't live under a bridge, but, I don't look back on those years fondly.

 Happy Schmappy. I was a kid. I had fun days, I had crummy days, I had days when nothing much happened. Never got everything I wanted, but never wanted for anything important. Didn't have a whole posse of friends, but never really wanted any, I was more content with a good book and my bicycle and a tree to climb.

Its trying to quantify entire periods like that as being 'happy' or 'unhappy' that leads to self-pity and misery. Life is life. Let it be.

I had a very happy childhood, although I think it's hard to compare to other childhoods, as I only had one.

I had one good friend at a time and usually only saw them during school. I spent all my spare time by myself in my room or in the woods behind our house - I remember walking and bicycling all over. I had my special interests to keep me busy.

I went to a very small school and was rarely bullied. I think I was pretty lucky.

I remember wasting a lot of time trying to think up schemes to meet girls, all utterly failed. That was painful but I think everyone deals with that to some extent.

My family was kind and we had fun, went on family trips every year.

Really, I think I missed social interaction much less than other aspies.
