You're missing the point. I am disgusted that this man is using aspergers syndrome as an excuse for his behaviour.

Someone who uses an aspergers diagnosis as a scapegoat for something so terrible in my opinion is scum, whether I have skeletons or not.

I agree with hale_bopp. It makes me cold inside, to think that because of people like this paedophile, others on the spectrum are more likely to be accused of similar behavior.

Last night I was playing pool with a lovely women from Mexico, she was very beautiful, and I'm so confused at my recent diagnosis of AS, I tried telling her about it, but she was too stoned to understand my Kiwi accent and English. I'm so fearful at present of upsetting people that I tend to freeze and say little, when I am socialising the aspie way.

My guess is that aspie men make many gaffs in conversation, I do. Some may obsess about another and take that too far regarding contact and harassment. Otherwise most of the bad stuff like date rape, drugging, internet prowling, predatory behaviours, and, and, I think would be more your NT males

Oh boy....do I have a story about this one!

About six months ago I met a guy with Asperger's who is a convicted sex offender. He is the founder of a AS support group I went to and for reasons I don't have the time to share now, he admitted this to me (the rest of the group participants seemed to know about it already) about an hour after I arrived at the meeting that was being held at his place. I know he wasn't just making this up (and who knows why someone would....but you never know what some people will claim about themselves to garner attention or for some other god-awful reason) because I looked him up on my state's sex offender registry and he was there. He was convicted of being in possession of HUNDREDS of images of child pornography and some of the images were of children as young as three engaged in various sex acts. Without going into further details at this time, he essentially blamed all this on his AS and claimed he is not actually attracted to children. The other members of this group (including this guy's girlfriend apparently) seemed to believe him, but I did not. Anyway...if anyone actually wants to know further details, (and they are quite, shall we say, "interesting" IMO) i'll post more about it later. I need to clean this house up a bit before it gets too late.

Sick and disgusting. A f*cking embarassment to this community. I hope he blows his brains out. I would be disappointed if you did not say this.

Makes me SO angry.

what are you talking about? my secrets are small, like "oops i read that paper that was sitting on my bosses' desk", not big like "i want to have sex with helpless children". no comparison there.

what a clueless statement you made. makes me wonder about YOUR secrets though....

So true.

You do realize, don't you, that the stock response to this is 1) denial, followed by 2) impugning the character and morals of the messenger?

While I agree with both the point about Aspergers not being an excuse as well as the fact the Aspies may be more prone to making missteps that lead to sexually uncomfortable situations, there's something else that should be considered.

NT women are most definetly not fond of AS men, and part of me thinks that NT women may be prone to taking any interaction btw themselves and an AS man in a very negitive way. The "Harassment" being discussed may be more along the lines of "OMG, that total wierdo just said hi to me, eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww".

Hence the high numbers...

My aspie son (16) made the mistake of smiling at the girlfriend of a football player. Then he stared at her in class (never mind that she sat in front of him). Finally, he said, "Hi," when she was coming out a door he was heading in. She filed a sexual harassment complaint against him, and he was sent to the school for troublemakers. The school's sexual harassment policy only required that a student make another student "sexually uncomfortable" on three occasions. Her football player buddies all backed her up. Of course, it helped a WHOLE lot that the Vice Principal, who was in charge of discipline, was also the head football coach. Now THERE was a fair process. </sarcasm>

Before dumping on people for sexual harassment, understand that can mean a wide range of things, some of which don't even make sense.

I have never sexually harassed anyone. I've also never tried to initiate sex with anyone who wasn't willing.

Yes, I have had sexual relationships. I shall reiterate what has already been said. AS/autism is generally not an excuse. Generally, because I can't speak for those who are on the lower-functioning end; I don't know how they operate.

Now that is just ridiculous. It frustrates me that this sort of thing is allowed to happen, and it's not just at that school either. I've said "hi" to girls before. Better lock me up!

As for hale_bopp, I'm on your side. Some people are simply scum and shouldn't be alive, and it cheapens all of our diagnoses -- and the human species as a whole -- when they do something horrible and try to pull the AS card. Good riddance to them.

Roll them all you want.

I think that the "I hope he blows his brains out" type comments are cliché, and in no way help the problem, ESPECIALLY in regard to prevention. As for the claim that it is an embarrassment to this community - pedophiles exist in LARGE numbers in EVERY community, so Aspergers is IRRELEVANT to the issue. What the embarrassment is is that pedophiles harm children in the first place, and more that the press choose to vilify the Asperger's community disproportionately (except for Catholic clergy, of course).

well, it may have been an unfair accusation. it's hard to say, as the information is thirdhand. did you appeal?

are you recommending that people do not admit any wrongdoing when they are charged with a crime? people should take resonsibility for themselves and yes - pull their time like a trooper.

Yes. They investigated themselves and found that they had done nothing wrong. The policy was valid, the grievance process was followed, and the committee vote was valid. Besides, the law states that the principal has final authority, and could send him there for any reason. That means that even if we won (which we didn't), the principal could - and would - send him there anyway.

honestly, i'd only mount a defense if i was actually innocent. if i did something wrong i would plead guilty, because, well, i was guilty. i am shockingly, ridiculously honest and i would never feel right if i was guilty of a crime and my defense somehow managed to clear me of charges.

Well yeah, if I was in the wrong then why should I mount a defense? I would mount one if I thought there was one, like I hit a bully or something.

What a pile of nonsense !

1. The idea of "Sexually uncomfortable" is too poorly defined. If saying "Hi" to someone you meet makes them feel sexually uncomfortable then I am sure that by midweek almost all the team I work with will have sexually harassed each other.

2. You should consult a lawyer, or at least read the law in your state regarding expulsion from school. The principal had a strong conflict of interest. I hold a view that he should have not touched the case. If you get a real pitbull of a lawyer you could get him to have a go at ripping the principal up on the stand.

I do not know what state you are in and I only know UK law on school expulsion so I an not give perfect advice, but as expulsion and other school matters are regulated by state law then you might be able to bring a court case in a real court with lawyers and a judge. You could argue that if the school is allowed to have final say on the matter that your son's case is a modern day version of the case of "George Archer-Shee". The reason I cite this case is that it was one all about the lack of due process in the UK independant state.

I would be interested to know how case law works in your state but I know that a UK court can use the legal reasoning from a foreign court if the legal reasoning appeared to be sound.

I would contact the ACLU as it is possible that your son's civil rights may have been infringed, I suspect that the school would recoil in horror if they had the ACLU on their case.
