Personally I find this disgusting, and bigoted.

It's the Onion. They do it to everyone. Hell, they ran a story about Shawn Johnson being put down because she broke her ankle.

Not something to be taken seriously at all. Yes, you can say "I personally didn't find it humorous", but if it offends you, you are clearly approaching this with the wrong expectations.

Making fun of celebrities is one thing. Making fun of people with medical conditions beyond their control is another.

Not offended nor surprised. The aspie revolution needs to be quelled before it can start...

I thought it was really funny.

It's the Onion. They make fun of everyone and everything. I, personally, love the Onion.

I've heard people make fun of ADHD, intellectual disabilities, cancer, etc. Why should autism be exempt? What makes us so special?
They aren't making fun of severely autistic people but an adult with HFA.
But I repeat: what is so wrong with making fun of autism? People can make fun of race, homosexuality, Christianity, other religions - pretty much everything but oh, once autism is mentioned it's time to burn down their houses.
Also, it's not tasteless at all. I have seen far worse than this.

It's the onion...you're a dumbass if you get offended by indiscriminate humor.

The Onion is purely satire. If people with autism aren't allowed to be the target of mild humor, it just makes the inevitable humor that people will end up engaging in tasteless and mean, which is far from what the Onion is doing here. The Onion makes fun of stereotypes and makes them harmless through laughter

Look in their archives. It took a looooooong time before they finally got around to mocking people with autism. The list of non-celebrity, non-autistic people to be mocked before this is very long indeed.

For the record, several months ago they mocked NT parents of AS kids. It was posted here. And I laughed. Because it actually was funny, even though I am in the group they were mocking.

Did I advocate burning down someone's house? I asked a simple survey question to see where the rest of the community stood. Where do you get off?

I am fine with being in the minority. I have three separate family members with impending deaths (likely within the next 3 months) so I can admit that the funeral issue probably strikes a raw nerve.

So if we were offended by n****r or homo humour on 'The onion' we would be dumbasses?

What about the jews? Does the onion make jokes about those guys?

What about foreign policy humour? Plenty of good jokes there that go untapped

Then be glad they didn't have the character go into a weird rant about the ritualistic burying of bodies and such.

I can understand that totally. When I lost family members, it seemed like everything on TV had funeral or death jokes and they just totally were not funny at that time.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who did think the Onion video was funny though. I'd probably be a much worse reporter than that character.

I'm just saying they could have made that video a whole lot more offensive by having the character question the cultural practice of burying bodies and mourning the person that died.

While I understand it's sometimes a very touchy subject, I think the Onion handled it rather well.
