As it is Autistic pride day today (my timezone is +2:00 GMT) I'm thinking of ways to celebrate. Anyone got ideas? One of mine is: since this year's theme is "Celebrate Neurodiversity", tell us how do you differ from other aspies. For example, I have a good sense of rhythm and I can talk with intonation.

It's Autistic Pride Day? I thought it was Father's Day. *peers at calendar* Er, or it will be tomorrow, but my family is celebrating today.

Um...This is the first times I've come out of lurking but here goes:I have very little sensory sensitivity but certain sounds are really distracting. To be honest I feel somewhat ambivalent about autistic pride day.I'm not ashamed of who I am but I'm not an activist either. It feels like I'm caught in the middle.I have many NT charcteristics as well as autistic charcterisics.Truth be told ,I feel very NT when I'm here because I don't relate to/haven't experienced alot of what is just business as usual to many people here.I'll probably have get flamed for saying this and maybe it doesn't make alot of sense but this me.I'm not on the wrong planet, I'm in the wrong galaxy-- and am seriously confused

I disagree with the cheery attitude of this whole thing. This is not the time for celebration among the autistic community. This may very well be the last generation of autism, save for those third world countries that cannot afford genetic prenatal testing(hooray?). We need action, not picnics.

Tomorrow, I'm going to celebrate APD by having an Autism Awareness ribbon as my MSN messenger icon. That's not really celebrating, I now, but it's all I can think of to do....

I'm really not sure how I am different from other Aspies, to tell you the truth....

since when is "autism" something to be proud of? there's no AIDS pride day, or ADD pride day.

AIDS is a disease without purpose or benefit, ADD probably has a pride day and has it's share of benefits, Autism is a neurological difference with many benefits, not a disease. It is a part of who I am, therefore, I grace it's presence with pride.

Hello,

My name is Ben.

Happy Autistic Pride Day !

I'm not diagnosed asperger yet.

But I'll be very proud to be an AS when i'll get my diagnosis.

A psychiatrist told me to get an appointement in a hospital who is specialised in autism (asperger ...), because I had symptoms who look like AS and I seem to be one.

My long short story is:

It was an evening who I was really depressed (more than I was normally in the past) and didn't know what to do with my life, so I went to the library where I went 5 or 6 times a month to get some CD's. One of the clerk there, when she saw me began to imitate me (my voice) and the others clerks there, found that funny and told any kind of crap about people who there voice are weird ...

I found that very hard to live (I had to live that while I was in high school), enough that the next time that I went there to brought my cd's (I didn't say a word, no hello, no thank you, no have a nice day ...) and never went there anymore after that.

I never thought that a place like there can judge peoples and threat peoples like sh*t, and you know what ? They were paid for that.

I don't know how to say that but a lot of REAL PEOPLE think that they are better than everyone else.

People like us don't waste their time to laught a other peoples !

Sorry for my bad english !

See you !

Bye !

Every day for me, is Autistic Pride Day. I'd rather feel proud, than have Pity Parties.

I don't take a particular pride or shame in my status as an Aspie, although my view of it tends to lean more towards pride than not. It's just who I am; I'm proud to be me all the time. Why do I need a special day to be proud of part of me?

I just think it's kind of fun to have a special day to celebrate AS. :) It's like Father's Day, Valentine's Day, and all the rest of those days. You can celebrate parents and love any day of the year, but having those days is just fun. :D

We should have marchs/parades :P

Too bad it's still too obscure.

Ah well. Maybe next year I can do something to get people's attention.
