People with autism struggle to articulate themselves though the world is listening.
And people with AS articulate themselves well, though no one listens.

Haha! That encapsulates my son and my friends son. My son with Autism cannot speak, while my son's friend with AS monologues (very well) about whales.

What might you say of people's abilities to hear when they do listen?

Edit: Or, maybe you mean "listen" also also hearing?

What do you mean by this?
Why do you think the "world is listening" to someone with autism?
Also why don't people listen to AS people who articulate themselves well?
Also please explain the difference between AS and autism.

There I said it.
It's nonsense.
Please explain yourself, if that's not the case.
(must be the aspie bluntness in me :) )

Picture the autistic child being grieved over by his loved ones as the Aspie stands there explaining it all.

While I am not a parent, I do know there are a lot of people on this forum that would be upset that an autistic child would be "grieved over". As for as an Aspie standing there explaining it all. There is a lot that needs explaining. I am sure there will be another 20+ posts on this when I check tomorrow.

By "grieved over", I only mean to be saying people are giving the child good and right attention related to his or her personal needs and desires ... and while there certainly is "a lot that needs explaining", some of us have much difficulty actually getting things on through to others.

"grieved over"
Interesting choice of words. I actually thought this was going to be another long-winded "difference between severe autism and asperger" thread.
There are lots of them on this forum.

"some of us have much difficulty actually getting on through to others"
I see your subtle point here:
you are talking about how you can't get through to me about what this post is about.
Enough said.

No. I was only speaking of the Aspie in the hypothetical scenario.

Gee, I should probably read more carefully.
Okay, I truly understand everything now! :)

It is amusing how this entire thread is full of nothing but people misunderstanding each other.
I wonder what chronos and nostromo are thinking?

I normally talk quite easily (and I talk a lot -- and talking is also an important part of my job), but when I am in sensory overload I sometimes can't talk at all.

I'm thinking I'm confused by some of the posts!
However LeeJosepho's first post, using imagery, beautifully encapsulates in one sentence what Chronos originally postulated.

alas, yet another myth. not all with classic autism struggle to articulate themselves, in fact some of them can perseverate and monologue with the best of them.

i have never grieved over my autie son, altho i am subjected to long one sided discussions on special interests quite regularly from his highly verbal autie father.

He you ever felt concern for your son over any distress even he might get from that?

If so, that is/was all I had meant ...

grieve: to cause [the one grieving] to suffer distress <it grieves me to see him this way (or for him to have to endure that)>

If a knowledgable person cares to write out a nice description of the key differences between Autism and being an Aspie I'd like to know.

Somebody told me that Aspies should also have a spectrum of their own and should not even be on the Autistic Spectrum. Even if we are in ways different, we still have a lot in common.
