I am curious, as I've found out one of my abilities is to recognize patterns in everyday life (like...everywhere. Music, street naming conventions, etc).

I've also been told I notice things in more detail then others. I was curious who else might have this same benefit?

I've been told since I can remember that I had 'an amazing eye for detail'. This is mainly due to me noticing things others don't.

The kicker is, though, that I often miss the obvious.

I don't tend to miss the obvious...but people do comment on my ability to understand what they're thinking (sometimes when you have to learn everyone's non-verbal body cues...you end up noticing them better then NTs do)

It's funny you should mention noticing social cues from people you know. I can do that, but I have to be really close. Ii'm not sure if it's due to knowing them or if I've seen the cues from them enough to recognize them.

I do have a tendency to apply social cues I've noticed in my husband to other people. Big mistake, considering he's a suspected Aspie. He's farm more socially successful than I am, though.

I certainly pick up details that others do not. An abundance of extra details in fact. But the downside is that there have been times I have not taken notice of the bigger picture of a situation as a result.

@TeaEaryGreyHot, you reminded me because of your name that I need to pour the kettle into my cup of tea.

I guess I see it as a pattern? Like most people act a certain way, and they have specific mannerisms.

It came in handy when one of my girlfriend's friends started texting me using her phone...I immediately knew it wasn't my girlfriend as the person's mannerisms/speech were different.

I wouldn't have noticed.

I think I would have noticed that as well. I'm not sure that I'm particularly good at noticing things, but I am very visual, so I notice for instance if something in the room has been moved.

High attention to detail is my middle name. It's a very long middle name. I should get it changed or at least shortened to HATD.

Anyway, yes I do notice small details. Anything from picking out all the detail in small objects, to noticing clothing and slightly different hair style changes to people's nervous habits.

Oh and if an object is moved from a room I will become restless. I have this small mirror and when I move it down to get a better look at it I have to immediately put it back in the same spot otherwise my brain thinks 'where did it go?' I'm like a cat that stares in the same spot if something there has been changed.

Yes.

It's what I've heard.

This can get in the way too as there are many times that it shouldn't take a priority in certain contexts, and it serves as a distraction in these scenarios.

My subconscious bias is for detail first.

I defiantly agree on this.
