a decade in hs?

my old acquaintence from childhood was always an interesting girl. she never seemed "ret*d" to me however i do believe she had some type of autism... she was in the autism class in school, has to this day an unbelievable obsession with both the beatles and dr g medicine woman, had very strange habits and althought my age she spent 8 yrs in high school. im just not sure if shes not ret*d why it could have taken her that long. also what type of autism does this seem like i have aspergers but function on a whole other level.

Not enough information.

There's plenty of reasons why someone with autism would have trouble at school... which one applied to her is anybody's guess.

Easily I think - I spent 7 years in High School, but I'm far from being stupid (in fact I believe I graduated in the top 2-3%). Sometimes it takes longer, especially if you're easily distracted or have focusing problems. I was 19 when I graduated.

Maybe she missed a lot of school, I finish high school at 19 or 20 because I missed 2 years.

I don't think I could have ever graduated HS in the typical fashion regardless of duration of attendance. Thankfully my school counselor recommended that I attempt to test proficiency. So I "graduated" at age 16 instead of having to go through the pointlessness of public high school education for the full duration.

In college, some classes were hit or miss. I tested proficiency in whatever class I struggled with actually taking. Test versions are far easier than going through the motions of being an involved student in a class environment. Some classes though, that I actually wanted to take specifically, were easy enough to breeze through.

If she is anything like me, it's not intelligence, or lack thereof, that was holding her back. It's the structure of the system, and the hoops they require you to jump through that are pointless useless redundant BS. But hey, I don't know anything about her, she could just be ret*d. Cannot really make an informed decision without being informed.

It's probably just taking her a lot longer to get through the classes & receive all her credits, etc. than it would take someone else. I can understand. If I had actually been able to stay & finish high school it probably would have taken me that long, too.

ya she was not ret*d though certainly developmentally atypical. looks somewhat between totally normal and atypical in the face she puts nail polish in her hairs and dressis in a terrible way like i can't describe and her hair is not a total mess but not well washed. there is something about her eyes as well she was social but would talk in strange hyper monologs about dr g and the beatles and one day was duped into singing a hard days nigh at her expense!

Well, I don't find that first post offensive at all.

My education was all over the place. Went to school up to year 5, then home schooled, then went to high school for about 10/11 months, back to home school then a community college for around 6 years doing HS certificate and many other I.T courses.

I don't think I would have made it through high school but I guess I'm HFA and ADHD.
