Whats the difference between Schizotypal and Aspergers?
I was diagnosed as schizotypal.
But I have tons of asperger qualities.
I have never heard voices, or seen anything that isn't supposed to be there. I don't have ideas of reference, and I don't believe in magical thinking, or magic of any kind. I did believe in all that crap when I was in my twenties, but not now

My autistic burnout was misdiagnosed with schizophrenia. There are some superficial similarities between autism and psychosis.
Let's see the DSM symptoms for schizotypical PD:
Quote:
ideas of reference
"People at public transport stare at me" was believed to be this in my case. The problem was, people at public transport really did stare at me when I couldn't supress stimming and couldn't put on my "normal face".Quote:
strange beliefs or magical thinking
While most of the people hold some irrational beliefs, autistic people often place them differently than their local social norm allowsQuote:
abnormal perceptual experiences
Sensory issues are easy to confuse with thisQuote:
strange thinking and speech
That's actually one of the core autistic traitsQuote:
paranoia
See the comment for "ideas of reference". Quote:
inappropriate or constricted affect
In autism we have inappropriate or constricted ways of showing affectQuote:
strange behavior or appearance
Autistic person is often unaware of what behaviors would be "normal" and what would be "strange" Quote:
lack of close friends
Do I need to comment this? Social difficulties are in the core of autism.Quote:
excessive social anxiety that does not abate and stems from paranoia rather than negative judgments about self.
Excessive social anxiety that stems from bad past expiriences with other people is not easy to tell apart from this.My conclusion: On the surface the two can show the same picture despite different mechanisms underneath.
