From what I understand is that a lot of people on the spectrum - not all people have a greater chance of getting addicted to such things. I have an addiction to one of those things, and my poison is energy drinks.

Do you have an addiction and what's your poison or favourite thing out of the things that I've mentioned?

Quality batch brewed beers are my favourite. The good thing is that in moderation, they are healthy.

Coffee I like too, but is more harmful to my liver and kidneys

Cannabis I like, but tends to make me lazy and stupid

Out of those things you've listed, my "poison" would have to be energy drinks. It used to be alcoholic ones (Four Loko, Joose), but since they're now banned in the U.S., I'll be sticking with the sugar-free energy drinks (my current drink of choice being Red Bull Sugarfree).

I drink a lot of caffeine to counter my lack of sleep, typically a two liter bottle of diet soda and two pots of coffee, but sometimes three pots and two bottles. As for energy drinks, I've tried them and they did nothing for me. They're overpriced, taste like piss, and are no more effective at giving someone energy than a single cup of coffee.

I drank heavily from 2006 until early this year when it became such a problem that I spent two nights in jail. I haven't had a drop since. Anyone with any kind of social problem is more likely to drink or do other drugs, whether you have a mental disorder that makes life difficult or you're in a minority group and have to put up with society's BS.

Caffeine is my only true addiction. I can exercise control over everything else, but I have serious drug seeking behavior when it comes to coffee.

I love alcohol too much, and I know that my mindset is ripe for alcoholism. I've fallen off the wagon twice, going through ridiculous amounts of hard liquor in short periods of time. Because I know my potential for addiction with this substance, I avoid it almost entirely.

I'm prescribed amphetamine daily and am dependent on it. I don't take more than directed.

Nicotine has been problematic for me in the past, but I'm getting by without it. I still smoke during periods of heavy stress.

I love smoking cannabis, but it's expensive and not always available. This is a drug that, like caffeine, doesn't give me much guilt.

Well I would not really consider any of these addictions but I drink, smoke ciggerettes, cannabis and drink caffinated beverages quite often, there are a number of other things I've tried and enjoy on occasion.

hi all. interesting thread

although im steering clear of anything (personal decision as id like to just be myself for the time being)...

energy drinks to go up
cannibis to go down

neither of which really seem to help and both loaded with extra things you dont really want to get

energy drinks make my teeth grinding worth (all that caffine is not good)... i think they raise my stress levels and mess with my digestive system (its bad enough on its own). cannibis... great for an amplified "cup of tea" ahhhh, but really didnt help at all with my antisocial side. its just a temporary distraction that led to paranoia (understandable given the state of my head the last 2-3 years) but.... and this is something id never think to say before now...ultimately... not good. regardless of the benefits. i feel much better NOT smoking it OR drinking those energry beasties

thanks my thoughts anyway. glad to see im not the only one who's had some run ins with both those things.

everything in moderation... even moderation lol

I'm not prone to becoming addicted to anything but I did smoke cigarettes for a while. Managed to quit though.

As far as alcohol is concerned, I like it in moderation. It goes straight to my head and more often than not drunkenness isn't a pleasant or fun experience for me; after three or four the cheery relaxed-ness gives way to feeling nauseous and miserable. I've learned where my limits are and prefer quality over quantity - real ales, dry cider, single malt whiskey and I don't like wine unless it's with a meal.

My poison is caffeine I suppose...I remember liking the smell as a child but strangely hated all hot drinks throughout my childhood. These days I love black coffee and green tea...I get sluggish and irritable and generally don't function too well in the mornings without it. I recall reading somewhere that there may be a genetic component to being a caffeine addict...which I can believe, because my dad's a coffee fiend too!

I have a prescription for three psychiatric drugs, including Xanax, Lexapro and Risperidone. I am dependent on them, but I never take more than prescribed, nor do I crave them. The only time I really give them much thought is if I skip a dose. Then I become ill from withdrawals.

mmm beer/ale for me

it has to be the high quality stuff. I refuse to buy cheap, watered down garbage such as anything miller/coors/budweiser. I hate 'lite' beers.

I am a light - moderate drinker. Maybe one beer a week at most, unless its a special occasion. I particularly love guinness extra stout, Weyerbachers Blithering Idiot Barleywine, Troegs mad elf, and anything from dogfish head brewery.

Speaking of Rockstar, I'm drinking one of the 16oz. blue cans (Zero Carb) as I type this. Yep, good stuff.

Can't drink coffee.

Don't want to drink energy drinks.

I have been addicted to alcohol but for health reasons I have cut down to 1-3 on special occasions.
