For example: If I am walking along and a police car drives past, I feel really guilty & uneasy, and I don't know where to look.

I don't know why this happens.

Anybody else get this?

I'm fine now but I used to be utterly terrified of police. It's quite irrational being an obsessive rule follower and was a teacher's pet but yes, I always expect to be arrested for something I had no idea I did. Hopefully that never happens!

I get pretty nervous if I'm driving and a cop is right behind me. They might make up an excuse to pull me over, or pull me over for something I'm doing wrong I'm unaware of.

Yes, I sometimes feel nervous.

I'm a big walker. And one, walking is just plain unusual, not many people walk, and even that is a small number of people.

And then, I find I sometimes talk to myself a little (can gently stop). Or I just come across as unusual. A police officer might view this as "on drugs," etc, etc.

PS We've had some discussions on the possibility of carrying an autism card. I think right behind my ID so I can, if need be, easily hand it to a police officer with my ID.

Will try and include a sample and some links.

Eek, I usually jump when I see one when driving, its terrifing! Once I saw one zoom around a corner as I was pulling up to a stop sign and it scared/surprised me so much that I ended up running the stop sign and getting pulled over. He let me go, but he asked me a bunch of questions first, I think he was suspicious cus I looked at him as I zooned through the stop sign :/

I often feel nervous but then I often have a reason to feel nervous because I smoke green. I'm very good at acting normal in that situation though. If I have some smoke in my bag and, for example, I am getting the train and there are police at the entrance to the station then I will make a point of saying hi to them and smiling. My smiles in that kinda situation look really forced and weird, I suspect they usually just think I am a few cards short of a full deck (edit: which is probably not entirely untrue) and leave me be. Which is fine by me of course.

If you *used* to smoke isn't it possible that you just learned to feel nervous around the police back then and you just never unlearned it?

I can see how that could be very useful in certain situations.

One, I think walking is flat out unusual. A few people walk in evenings, but I will walk at different times throughout the day.

And then I think I feel more exposed walking.

I laugh, I can't help it.

I grew up around Armoured landrovers, Riots and plastic bullets. ((<3 County armagh))

But here in scotland they drive police cars, are armed with a baton and pepper spray. It's so hard to take them serious after the intimidation tatics of the Police service of northern Ireland. Am sure I won't think this way if I ever get wacked or sprayed though.

It actually makes me feel more relaxed and at ease. It is some of the other drivers on the road that make me uneasy.
