Happymusic, próbowałaś polskiego? Myślę, że zajmie ci więcej niż miesiąc
Ha! art thou challenging me?
If I had opportunities to speak it I might take you up on that. I've heard it's difficult, but I don't see how that could slow me down. I know that sounds arrogant, but languages are just easy - especially if they are written in a roman or Cyrillic alphabet. Their patterns are crystal clear. For instance, I can see in what you wrote, Indo-European roots that give hints as to the meaning. "próbowałaś" has the same root as probare, to try. "polskiego" is obvious. "miesiąc" having the same root as "mes" or month. The other words I don't know.
I'd just have to learn verb tenses, clause structure, declensions, vocabulary (prefixes, roots, etc.), and so on - all the standard IE stuff. Then I'd have to figure out those things that are absolutely unique to Polish, which is really only a percentage of the language - maybe 30% - I'm guessing. That makes the actual learning (as opposed to making connections) a much smaller task. At the same time, I'd figure out where the linguistic influences have come from and draw connections to those other languages and cultures. It's like a web.
They're all categories. You put all the pieces in their categories and then just implement the formulas of structure. The formulas contain variables and the possible values are the things I mentioned in the last paragraph. You just plug them in.
Anyway, thanks for inspiring me to think about it, Valoyossa. You've actually cheered me up regarding my job, which I really dislike.
