My mom's always saying, "Don't take things so literally!" as if I have a choice about the matter. Another one of her favourites is, "Making friends is easy, just go up and talk to people!" Sure, easy for an extrovert who doesn't suffer from crippling social anxiety. There have been many times when I just wanted to switch cognitive processing systems with her so she can see what it's like to feel terrified of talking to strangers and unbearably uncomfortable when people try to make small talk. I'd also like to trade sensory processing systems with her for a while so she gets a better understanding of the living hell my senses put me through every day.

"We are One" definitely gets me irritated.

These are some common ones.. They mainly have to do with my strangeness and quietness and people being confused by it or having issues against it.

"You're weeeird!" (this one is soooo overused)

"Snap out of it." (to when I look spaced out while thinking)

"Why are you looking at me that way?" (to me just being what I think is normal)

"We need to discuss something." (meaning they have issues with my weirdness, or quietness, etc)

"Are you listening?" (I can hear you)

"Are you gay?" (for some reason I look very gay and some people have a panicked pressing need to inquire)

"You're so quiet, is there something wrong?" (some people think that my being quiet means that I am plotting something bad against them)

"You need a drink." or "You need to get drunk."

"You need to get a date."

"You need to go to a club."

"Why do you read those astronomy magazines?"

"Why do you like airplanes?" (what is wrong with me liking airplanes? i never understand this comment.)

"You're a freak!" (repeated way too often during my childhood.)

"You don't have a sense of humor, do you?"

"What's your problem?"

"Excuse me, we were wondering.. You've been acting strange.. Do you have some problem with us?" (no, you're paranoid.)

"sure..."

"You can't do that!"

"Stop fidgeting and twitching."

"Wake up."

"Pay attention."

"You can just stop doing that, right?"

"Get a life."

"Why can't you be more normal?"

"You hate everybody!"

Many many more to come...

"How are you?" (I'm sick of answering this)

"Any complaints?"

"What do you think?" (Classmates talk and they think I'm listening to her and ask this)

"Come on, go out!"

"[My name]" (I hate the way my sociology teacher say my name)

"You look like an statue"

"You won't react even if someone stabs you" (Once)

"Come here!" / "Come back!"

my mum had a red hat and she said ive got no knickers on. i said "eh? what :? 8O" "no its a just a saying ' if youve got something red on it means youve got no knickers a bit of a tart basically" "but how? is it cos of the red light district?" "and she said "what theheck? 8O :? no of course not oh i dont arrgh i hate your illogic logic. its just a saying. god you are so hard work sometimes you really are you know that. why do you have to disect everything".

i ddnt think i was disecting things :? :( i was just curious to know the origin so im off to google.

damn asd    really makes you 'grr' at times.

"There are other people besides you!" (I earned what I have; let them earn what they want.)

"You live in your own little world, where no one else is important!" ("My little world" is quiet, comfortable, and free of distractions.)

"You think you're smarter than anyone else, don't you?" (Usually said by someone who always needs to be told what to do.)

Calling me anything that ends with the suffix "-tard". (Usually after obscenities beginning with the letter 'F'.)

My parents keep telling me to relax and not worry about a thing. Well I could try if they are not my #1 stress and give me unpleasant tasks all the time.

Most other people don't know I have AS. My in-laws are the most non-offensive type: they never say anything that might remotely tick off anybody in anyway. :D Gosh I wonder how much I need to practice to get to that level.

like jet builder i have had every single one of these said to me. i too, am asexual as ive neither interest nor desire for sex..

jetbuilder wrote:
"You need a girlfriend."

"You need to get laid!" (I'm asexual)
er no thanks ive neither the appetite desire nor interest. worst thing that could poss happen in my view
"You're so quiet."
yes? and? next question?
"You should talk more!"
hmph. its up to me when i wanna talk thanks
"You just need to come out of your shell."
thats your opinion if you cant hack me you know where to go.
"Can I help you?" (at a store)
if i needed help - id ask for it
"Come out to a bar with us!" (Especially when they keep asking after I decline)

"You know, you don't need to stay in your room all of the time."
no - but i want to - was my teens it was my only solice against bullying as were books
"Are you sure?" (when I decline an offer of something)

yes if i wasnt perfectly sure i would of told you so, or no.

its not easy making friends when your hobbies 'unusual for your age' like mine (reading, computers, music photography and cross stitch. ive no interest in parties and wheni left school severed all ties with school bar one friend who drigfted her own way awa y from me anyway with no explanation. she was NT.

another is "eh your speaking goobledygook i dont understand your logic' when from brain to my mouth its perfectly logical and doesnt help the fact i use advanced words and know what they mean and in what context so i sound dumb when i dont understand whats being asked of me or dont understand cues from their eyes r face. to me i dont understand NTs logic- why 'go AROUND the bush' trying to temper peoples feelings in something sensitive topic when you can go straight through it and get to the point. even if that does mean hurting their feelings

oh and another is "oh for gods sake for someone who doesnt understand social communication your too bloody sensitive. dont take things so personally" well alot of things can be conveyedby tone of voice that we cant see in the face  makes argh sometimes. but the good side is im very organised and planning ahead down to the minutest detail yet they cant understand why i cant 'see the big picture'. well if you draw me the big picuture than ill see it but i cant imagine it. :)

Things I hate hearing from NTs:

"Did you watch the game last night?"

"We really need to go out to the clubs!"

"Do you accept Jesus in your life?"

"Did you hear about what [insert celebrity here] did?"

And just about anything political.

**shudder**

Maybe todays' NTs' are more elightened, but I used to CONSTANTLY hear "Well, you must be doing SOMETHING wrong for the kids to hit/pick on/ be mean to/ not want to be your friend.
