The funny thing is with me, I often use idioms, but I don't know what they actually mean for the most part. I have just learned when to use them.

I used to do this a lot - and it frequently got me into trouble because I would say things without knowing the meaning and cause offense. And, as a child, when this happened, it would invite punishment.

These days I look idioms up on Urban Dictionary when I realize I'm using a term without knowing what it means.

That's funny because I tend to make up my own idioms on the spot. Maybe I can't call them idioms if they're not widespread but I use metaphors and similes in my speech quite often.

Last time I checked, [insert statement here].

... This is very deliberate, as I may not have full knowledge of a topic, and as the knowledge I hold might be outdated...

Mine is usually

"wait ... What?! / What do you mean" :?:

or

"Sorry, can you repeat that, I wasn't listening"

or

"That doesn't make sense / You don't make sense" or "I'm confused" :?

or

"Joke? Sarcasm? ... oh  "

"I've never thought of it that way before."

"Oh really?"

"It's a catch-22."

"Okay."

"As far as I know..."
"...but perhaps I've misunderstood"
"Yes, yes..." (As in yes, yes I do)
"Indeed"
"Intriguing"

I also have a horrible tendency to say that I want to kill something instead of saying that I'm mad at something (without actually wanting to kill anything, of course). I'm waiting for that last one to get me into trouble.

I also say ''right-o'' a lot, or ''right you are'' when given an instruction to do.

"*chuckles nervously*...what the-?"
"Seriously...dude....??"
"Man!"
"Mate-o/Mateo"
"To be honest...I think....uhh...ya know...yeah...????"
"Eh?/Ennit?"
"Oh, Big woof!"
"That's so RANDOM"
"I'm so weird aren't I?"
"Whoa! Come see this! It's so weird and stuff!"
"How the h- do I find all of these weird videos and stuff?"
"I am officially the most disturbed person in the whole entire universe!"

'Cool beans'
'Yeah, baby!'
'Sweet'
'You know what I mean?'
'pretty much' 'pretty cool' 'pretty sweet'

I say most of these in the tonality I heard them in movies and I've grown to HATE THEM ALL, but I can't stop!
