Has anybody lost their job after their FMLA runs out, whether it is intermittent or continuous leave? (For intermittent leave, you'd still have problems showing up because of your condition after running out, but would then be subjected to the company's attendance policy.) What'd you do afterward? Did you apply for disability?

No clue.

But I can say that at the company I work for, when somebody is not there for six months and the work is still getting done, it begs the question, is that person needed?

My partner did. And yes she applied for social security disability and got it. In my opinion losing your job because you couldn't work is pretty clear proof that you can't work due to your condition, which is what social security is looking for.
