I have always been disorganized, and I rarely cook my own food, someone usually has to tell me what to do if I am to do something, or else I woud just be at home playing my computer.

same here, I was even disorganized when I was in the army. I had no business being there. I rarely cook food, all I do is open a prepackaged salad or bag of precooked brown rice and add canned soup to it and call it a meal.

I was prepared to say, "I don't", but I do better than just playing on my computer all day.

I prefer for someone to just tell me what to do. BUT, that's bad for relationships, so I tell me what to do--in written form, and it takes ages but I enjoy it--and then I do what I tell me to do.

Start with defining what you want out of life.

I'm really worried about college and university, I keep thinking about me not being able to stay concentrated and needing help to place my books and things. I really find it embarrassing when everyone can do it by themselves but me.

I don't mind being disorganised. Who said I had to be organised? Society? What, when I am living alone in my own (rented) home? As long as my disorganisation does not cause community problems or is not harmful to anyone it is no one elses business when or what time i eat, what I wear, when or how I pay my bills (as long as I pay them and I tend to keep my responsibilities in that way to a minimum...for example, I don't really need things like a sky subscription as I read more books than I watch tv these days and I mostly pay by cash rather than direct debit where I can so I don't get charged if I forget about them..which I can do).

I don't mind not having sky, I don't want it anyway. They over charge considering the number of crappy tv shows and repeats they put on. I'd rather stream or just download stuff from youtube if I must have entertainment provided to me by the flickering box. I can always hook my computer up to the tv with a HDMI cable. I have one from when I did used to have a sky box.

Anyway, my choice and if i am happy being scatty brained because I spend most of my time being distracted by my hobbies then so be it. Society has no right to judge me and then shove that narrow brained judgment in my face like some kind of dictator hell bent on bending everyone (even with force) to their will.

I have a will of my own thank you very much.

I will say I do like to take advantage of my tendencies though and this is exaxtly why I want to employ myself self to work freelance on something related to my main areas of interest which is paleo nutrition and fitness and arts/crafts and design. That way I can spend all day farting (quite literallly if I eat the wrong thing) around with my hobbies and actually make money of out of them.

I shall put my imagination to work and see what I end up with.

PN I don't have to worry about not eating. I tend to love my food and one of my interests is nutrition and experimenting with how waht I consume affects my health/cognition/mood etc anyway lol.

Sorry about any spelling errors. My firefox spell check is not working.

As to University, I managed to get through the few modules I completed when I was there before leaving for health reasons and to care for a sick relative (it was supposed to be temporary) without being organised at all.

Surprisingly I got my work in on time and managed to get good grades (3 A grades for Heritage Studes which was all about museums (yay), 3 A- grades for human geography, an A grade and a B grade for Archaeology and 2 B grades and one D grade for physical geography because at the time it bored me and I never bothered attending all the lectures or learning the course materials). Overall my module grades after the weighting of each assignment was taken into account were A for Heritage studies, A- for Human geo, B+ for Archaeology and a C for geography.

Some years later I did an OU course where I got the equivalent of straight A grades for all the assignments I completed including a physics paper (97% first time doing physics so was pleased with that), 96% on a geo paper along with 100% on a short answer test and similar grades for other papers I completed including 92% and an 86%$ although I don't remember what for now (it was a while ago).

As for exams I never revised for them. I have never revised for any exam in my life even my gcses (english, maths, socioloty, psychology, biology) which I got all A grades for (except for a B for maths due to circumstances...they were retakes at college as I did not turn up for my classes and exams at school due to bullying and the tutor would not teach the material needed to sit higher paper so we all had to sit intermediate for which the highest grade you could get was a B) and an A level eqivalent pass for an Access to higher education course I did in media studies, english lit and drama before going on to do Archaeology and geo at university.

Not bad considering I was always losing my notes, struggled with group work and presentations and was a generally disorganised moot the entire time I was studying.

I didn't have concentration problems when it came to the work though...I love learning things so I could spend hours doing research in the library whilst still having the time of my life.

I want to go back to Uni again to finish that degree.

I miss it. It was fun. Studying is the ideal way to spend ones life. So many fascinating things to be curious about.

I am presently teaching myself how to play piano and have a flute and violin on lay away at a local music store (I pay a small amount each month until they paid for and then I get the instruments). I am also delving into all things palaeolithic as well as learning new arts and carfts techniques.

Learning things is exciting...it makes me feel alive.

Please excuse my typos, my spell check isn't working so it is not telling me when i have made a mistake such as typing becuase instead of because.

Silly machine.

This give me hope, thank you! I'm really good at doing something once I get started doing it, and then I can usually get a's and b's.

The army, huh? I dunno if I should join that when I come of age. I've heard that aspies are ver dis encouraged to join the military, is it because of things like this?

Well said! And good strategy (about taking advantage of your tendencies).

I used to play the violin before, I quit, and now I really regret it.

I tend to annoy everyone around my home. To stay organize v.s. disorganized. I will constantly repeat my plans, which annoys everybody.

So saturday we're going to so and so

Saturday we're going to so and so

My family tends to tell me to shut up or they haven't forgotten or they aren't going abandoned me. I know this, but its so I can remember. I also organize everything in advance to the annoyance of everybody else.

I set reminder alarms on my phone, I have a prominent calendar which I write all things on, I make 'to do' lists, I make schedule planners, I put all my things in set places and put them back there (such as labeled boxes). I also try to link things together which aids memory such as taking a vitamin when I brush my teeth or sweeping the floor before I go up to bed, routines really help me get all the things done.

I just think really hard about what I'm doing, just enough to get done what I absolutely have to get done, and let myself space out or withdraw the rest of the time. Having limited energy or a limited capacity to do things, makes you prioritize what absolutely cannot be avoided, and you realize the rest is really not as important as society says it is.

That seems like a very good and organized fashion and routine, I wish I could do all that :\

But... Laziness...

yeah university does factor in other issues, particularly if you are moving into the campus, I did not even know I had a problem with organisation and daily living until I moved to university, I kind of broke down, I did not know when to eat, how much to eat, what to eat. I could not shop in the supermarket properly, the shopping centre was too stressful to go into everyday but it seemed like to socialise it was necessary to do so. People came to my door for impromptu going out ideas, which I found crazy that they would even want to do things without warning and planning first.

being someone who went to university unprepared without knowing my limitations the strain I would suggest that you:

plan well ahead, know what problems you have and plan on how to overcome them well in advance.

talk to the university about help that they can give

Do everything you can to make it less stressful, e.g. get a flat on your own, internet shopping, someone to talk to at the university.

Don't be embarrassed about any extra help you might need, its a good way of vetting the people that you really want to be friends with, that's how I look at it, if people are funny with you they are not worth your time.

I have a thing for being organized while I wasn't before. I had to develop organizational skills to make up for defects in memory. Everything in certain orders, everything electronically reminded by the hour, every detail databased and filed away and every penny accountable.

It developed during business organizational skills learning and the ability to employ as many organizational systems to meet personal targets, time save and get everything in functional order. It was either develop this organizational skill, or simply crash and burn. It's often not just an Autism related issue, but one that's rarely 'in use'. A lot of people could just remember things and rely on remembering without even taking notes. I couldn't do that in any personal or professional capacity so had to come up with something.

I have reminder apps for all life tasks, ordered in hourly fashion, every penny of money going in and out detailed in money apps and spreadsheets, details of movies, music, games, everything accountable by name, price, when where its bought and to see if its seen or completed. Repeating shopping list apps, planning apps like gannt charts, brain storming apps, equation apps, medication reminder apps and anything that comes to mind, written down in a hand note book.

I still need prompting but, I'm long learning crucial life skills for safe household tasking with caring support, if anything hasn't been thought of being organized yet, I would know how to plan and develop how to organize it.

I have an IT Systems, programing and minor business educational background though, but I guess I could surpass many NT's in organizing stuff... so... there's no excuse for me anymore...
