How about the sincere people who want to get something from this Site (the vast majority)?

There will always be trolls, bots, etc, no matter what we do.

And stop all new sing ups until the troll problem is under control?

Just an idea.

But that would be quite unfair to anyone who isn't a troll who has joined since then...how would you like to get the message 'you've been banned' after doing nothing and finally thinking you found a place you could relate to others with autism. That aside perhaps disable signing up, but put up some kind of thing that lets people know they can still sign up at a later time once the problem is under control...so no one who genuinely wanting to sign up gets the wrong idea and thinks they're just being rejected for no reason.

Then again is it a problem of lots of trolls, or few trolls making lots of troll posts?

It is a pity to see trolls causing such damage to this site.

I agree. The only thing we should do is ignore the trolls. Just respond to threads you know are real

It's mostly spam and obnoxious posts....it could be worse, this happens to just about all forums from time to time...point is its not really permanent damage.

They get bored and move on or get banned, there's no reason to treat anyone who wants to be a part of this community like crap.

It wasn't a bad idea. I don't think it's quite what we need right now.

I should have cleaned up the last of it within five minutes.
