Son still in Group Home court ordered. He is 13 arrested for knife at school and threatening a student. He's been there since October. Regional Center will not advocate for his release home. Our home is a much better environment for him to learn in and the reason he is there in the first place is because the school would not provide him an aide. He was in regular classroom, very smart. This has caused us such pain and anxiety. We need legal advice because our county court system is tough and not willing to back off on this one. It was a childish incident that's been blown out of proportion. My son did not go after the kid, cooperated fully with the school and they had him arrested, This really sucks@! I thought the Regional Center's were supposed to advocate for the family?

Not sure how helpful this may be to your case, but, you might try www.copaa.org.

Here's what they say they are:

"The Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates, Inc. (COPAA) is an independent, nonprofit, §501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization of attorneys, special education advocates and parents. COPAA's mission is to be a national voice for special education rights and to promote excellence in advocacy. Our primary goal is to secure high quality educational services for children with disabilities."

Important to your case is that they do have lawyers...They have a section on legal/advocacy resources:
