This has come up in threads before but I thought we should talk about it again.

People can get some background info here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Procrastination

I thought this applied to alot of people here.

Quote:
Severe procrastination and/or ADD can cross over into internet addiction or computer addiction. In this instance the individual has a compulsion to avoid reality by surfing the web or playing video games (see Game addiction) or looking at online pornography (see Pornography addiction). Although these are relatively new phenomena, they are being considered as psychiatric diagnoses by mental health professionals.

It's hard for me to get things started, because I'm always thinking "not yet, maybe tomorrow." This makes me feel guilty, but I still continue procrastination.

In example, I should seek job, but it's somehow hard for me, I don't even know why...

I often procrastinate because of a sense of dread - which is ultimately a fear of failure and lack of self-confidence. I assume that just because something is done by ME it will be cr*p. Wheras if another person did the exact same thing, it would be great.

Once I start things, I'm generally fine and I realise that it was nowhere near as difficult as I thought. The problem is overcoming the dread (which is VERY difficult for me to do) in order to actually start the task in the first place...

I don't know if anyone else has comparable experiences?

Oh this article was mentioned on Digg is what brought the subject up in my mind.

http://cultivategreatness.com/2007/05/2 ... crastinate

Anyway I want a solution to the problem. My guess is the mechanism of the life destroying procrastination among members here can largely be explained by the
ADHD (or like ADHD) executive function problems.

My motto in life:

Never do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

I actually procrastinated even before I had a PC. One of my teacher asked me to redraw in larger scale an image of my textbook (I was good at drawing, that's why she asked me), and gave me 15 days to do it. In the 15th day I drew all the lines, then said I need another day, and finally I colored my drawing. It came out good.

Well, internet addiction kinda ruined my life, I have to admit it.
