I have the uncontrollable reponse to smile or even laugh at NT's whenever thay are engaged in a conversation with me. The same response happens whenever I am aware that they are staring at me.

I know it has an affect on the individual since they are aware I have no affect on them. Or perhaps try to justify the cause through self analysis, ie appearance. In the NT world such an event would only occur through deceptive reasons. But for me no logical reason is ever used.
However an obsessive thought through the parcipitation of my interests always seems to get in the way of the NT's topic. And so taking another comment seriously is difficult when I know I can't engage in their view, or have the current interest plagued in my mind or the joy associated with it remaining.

Does any other aspie have a different face response when engaged in communiction with NT's. I try to emulate a reponse but I know it is never the right one to use. And I never feel comfortable with it.

I smile at NTS a lot, they can be quite funny especially in a factory environment where their lack of attention to detail and feeble attempts at concentrating lead to production problems... :)

I do have the nervous tic of smiling when someone is directly talking to me....the same thing with the nervous laugh which can be annoying.

same here.

I hate it when someone speaks for too long, it makes me feel like my facial muscles can no longer hold up the expression. I must look very weird with this wilting smile. I usually start biting my lip at this time to relax my facial muscles a bit.

animated and frozen expression of unbridled glee with people i do not know very well.
or nothing.

a few funny facial tics and twists (same with shoulder.)
these are markedly reduced by the new stress reduction strategy i have been implementing with an AS psych.

it take a lot of energy for me to make a nice, normal and moderate smile. it feels unnatural and strange but i can do it. just tiring, like normal socialising face to face in a group.

i tend towards the extreme.

Smile when you are truly amused at what the other person is saying, or when you are glad to be in their presence.

I do smile, but I work in a service industry, so it's expected. Laughing, not as much...;)

LOL, I was going to add something to that. I think my smile comes off more worried the longer I try to hold it and keep up with the "enjoyable" conversation...

In my mind, I'm thinking..."Get me outta here!!"....and wonder if it shows through my uncontent smile.... :|

I'm either completely flat in facial expression or have a fixed smile I can't get rid of.

It's extremely hard for me to be assertive or to discuss serious issues that concern me without getting into this state:

Therefore, others naturally assume the issue I am raising is not very serious.

I tend to smile a lot too. I think when I was younger, I somehow got the message that "smiling is good", and I smile in particular when I am not sure exactly what I should be doing, or when I´m feeling uncomfortable. Oh yeah, and I do that nervous laugh thing too..I can´t seem to help it. I laugh when I don´t know what I should be saying. I guess I hope that I´m expressing comeraderie or something. When people I don´t know engage in small talk with me, and ask questions, I tend to get a nervous tic of looking all around the room; it´s like I can´t focus. I think I´m subconsciously looking for an escape...

Same here, I have a naturally very flat expression but if I'm talking to an NT (especially if I wasn't expecting them to talk to me) I seem to slap on this tense smile until they stop speaking. I'm faintly aware of the smile but it doesn't feel like something I can control. I often laugh nervously as well, which is more like sighing than laughing. I probably look like a complete idiot most of the time.

Firstly I do not have the ability to instantly psychoanalyse the person I am talking to so therefore I do not know if they are neurotypical or not.

Do I feel awkward when conversing with some one that I do not know? Yes but generally only in a social situation, if I have a role eg. when I am meeting a client for the first time I have no confidence issues.

The one time I did giggle totally inappropriately was years ago when I had to make someone redundant, I was so nervous that I started to smile and then giggle

I smile, but it's more of a smirk so peple think I'm hiding something or find something funny.
